I am almost 8 months post op and I lost 63lbs in total. It was a slow weight loss very gradually. Last night I had severe pain in my right upper quadrant and at the pit of my stomach. I went to the er where I was diagnosed with Gallstones. They said it was from eating fatty foods and rapid weight loss. I wouldn't consider my weight loss as rapid and I don't even eat fatty foods. Has anyone experienced this?

My husband lost a lot of weight a few years ago (not WLS) and a year later suffered terrible gallstones. He had to have his gallbladder removed immediately. We pleaded with my doc to remove mine while he was in there doing the sleeve, but he wouldn't. I pray I don't have those down the track. Good luck.

I had surgery in May. At the end of June I was having discomfort in the upper right quadrant. Ultrasound showed 3 gallstones. I had the surgery at the end of July (my choice for the delay because of work). Thankfully, I lucked out & didn't have an "attack" while waiting for the surgery. After the sleeve, I thought it was a piece of cake. Some tenderness, but nothing compared to the sleeve (which I didn't think was all that bad either, all things considered).

It's a pretty common side effect of WLS & I'm a "slow" loser too :). I never had a problem pre-surgery & no one in my family has ever had problems with their gallbladder.

My doctor gave me a 4 month script for Actigal to prevent the gallstones. He said he would give somebody with more weight to lose a 6 month script. He may update it depending on how much I have lost by 4 months.

The two surgeons at my practice do not remove the gallbladder at the time of surgery. They prefer to prescribe Actigal. My surgeon said it is basically impossible to not have a little leak of bile when removing the gallbladder. He feels that in conjuction with a new band or sleeve is too high of a risk of infection.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
