What's the best protein drink on the market?

Recommended Posts

Core power is the best tasting one I've found. 26 grams of protien in the regular and 20 in the light.

This is a tough question because taste is a high individualized thing for example I don't care for premier Protein and alot of folks here swear by it. My two choices taste wise are Syntrax nectar Cookies and cream and muscletech from Vitamin shoppe are pretty good. Protein wise Body fortress whey has 30 g per scoop and premiere protein ( I can only stomach the vanilla) has 30 g protein per 11 0z container.

My surgeon doesn't encourage use of Protein drinks, Banding is different I suppose than other WLS. However some times if I'm in a rush or want to give my band a rest, I drink them. Pure Protein has been the best , good protein ratio, to calories. I also like muscle milk.

There is no best. There are some brands more popular than others, but in the end the "best" powder is the one that works for you. I've tried several:

  • Premiere Protein - sickly sweet
  • Orgain Organics - I like the RTD but find it carb heavy. The powder can be gritty unless you have a nutra bullet or similar.
  • Prosource NoCarb liquid - Good for those early post-op days but very sweet & thick. Needs to be diluted. However it will also work with hot beverages like tea.
  • CVS Whey - Pretty good for a low price. They also have a sunfiber variety but that can be a bit sweet.
  • Isopure Unflavored -My personal favorite. Mixes with hot or cold. Also mixes with yogurt, cottage cheese or Soup. Minimal ingredients - 100% pure whey isolate.< /li>

Personally I think it's a matter of trial and error to find one that best suits you. Buy single serving or sample sizes of as many as possible and taste them for yourself.

I like Unjury. It blends really smoothly and is fairly low-calorie (100 for 21 g protein). I mix mine in my morning coffee with a 1/4 cup of milk. It tastes great in smoothies, too.

I can't get my Unjury to blend for the life of me!! Spoon, magic bullet, shaker bottle, warm Water, cold Water, room temp--it stays clumpy no matter what! I do. Same thing with Syntrax! (I've only tried fruity ones so far.) I think I'm Protein cursed. I really had high hopes for those, but unless I'm doing it wrong, I can't recommend either brand.

I like premier and for pre-op, I'm using GNC lean shakes.

I don't use it. It has too many additives & artificial ingredients for my taste, but the best way to mix powdered ingredients is to take a scoop of whatever powder & add maybe a half of a tbsp of water or liquid and whisk that together then slowly add more if the liquid.

I like the ready to drink Premier Protein. all 3 flavors are good. my favorite right now is the vanilla shake with a double espresso mixed in!!! My Breakfast everyday since pre-op has been a Premier Protein ready to drink shake. My post workout shake is different. I like the fruity flavors by Syntrax nectar. I am going through the fuzzy navel right now. great taste. contact the company and they can send you a sample pack ($15 for 15 different flavors or something).

I have some Isopure unflavored just sitting in my cabinet, but I need to find out what to do with it. haven't had much luck with it.

I love Cellucor Protein powders. They mix well, they're low calorie, high Protein, and low in carbs and sugar. These whey protein powders are designed for athletes who are looking to lose or maintain weight while gaining or maintaining lean muscle. They use very clean ingredients. They're really well priced. They dont have that funky protein aftertaste you get from a lot of powdered Proteins. And they have like 8 different flavors, you're almost guaranteed to find something you like. But i agree with the fact that everybody's preferences and tastes are different. I don't like chocolate protein, while some people think chocolate is the best thing ever. I prefer the more "unique" flavors such as Red Velvet Cake Batter and Peanut Butter Marshmallow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
