I had the lap band and gastric plication on 2/17. However, when I woke up from the surgery I knew something was wrong. I was in severe pain and couldn't stop vomiting. They encouraged me to take very small sips of Water and try to walk as much as possible. I thought they knew what they were talking about, so I tried my hardest. However, I was still vomiting profusely. After the first day, they sent me for a scan with contrast. It appeared everything was moving correctly, but my stomach was emptying very slowly. They found nothing wrong, but I couldn't stop vomiting. I couldn't even keep one extremely small crushed piece of ice down. They tried all nausea medicines and nothing worked. Finally on day 8, they sent me for another scan. Before I drank the contrast this time though, they took an xray. Guess what was still sitting in my stomach 8 days later? The contrast from the original test! The surgeon then did an upper scope to see if he could fix anything from inside without another surgery. When he finished the scope, he said that for some reason my stomach had quit functioning and the only solution would be to undo the plication. I was heartbroken, but knew I had no other option. As soon as the plication was removed, the vomiting ended. Now though, I feel as though I can eat too much food and still be hungry. I haven't had a fill yet, still too soon. But after all the pain I went through I was hoping I wouldn't feel so hungry already.

Sounds scary. I'm glad they were able to figure it out and give you some relief. If it's any consolation, being hungry in the weeks following surgery is very normal. Until your band is adjusted properly, hunger will definitely be there. Good luck to you and post often!

@@finding_me_again sending best wishes -- a traumatic beginning, so sorry. I have so,times been envious of Plication but not this morning. The band feels very uninvasive to me. I hope now as you heal up it will be that way for you, too. Don't worry about the hunger in these early days. It's good to learn to listen to it -- I had trouble even identifying hunger at first because for so long at the first signs I would tamp every feeling down with food. Now I actually welcome hunger -- it feels healthy, not my enemy. Took a while to get to that place. Your doctors will be watching you carefully after everything you've been through -- I really believe success with the band is all about the followup. Glad you're here on the forum -- keep in touch!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
