missheidi47 127 Posted March 4, 2015 My surgery is scheduled for 4/6. I know that walking after surgery is important, but I'm curious about other exercise. I've been doing a Zumba-like class and it's a lot of fun, but I think I will probably have to wait a few weeks (at least) after surgery. The moves definitely work your abs. I will ask the surgeon when I see him for my pre-op appointment. Anybody else doing classes after surgery?
chunkyloverlovesyou 197 Posted March 4, 2015 I started up tae Bo about 12 days after surgery, also involves a lot of twists and some light weights. I have not had an issue, my energy has gone way up too. If you do start exercising, make sure you are eating enough calories/drinking Water. It dehydrates you fast. Talk to your doc too, wouldn't want for you to bust a stitch.
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted March 4, 2015 I was restricted to brisk walking for two months post-op. But, yeah, definitely talk to your surgeon.
Veronica Page 488 Posted March 4, 2015 I just got the go ahead to to heavy aerobics. I guess it depends on your condition and your doctor.
CE24 23 Posted March 4, 2015 I had surgery last Tuesday and was told today I can do any type of cardio I want.
kcdavidson42 10 Posted March 4, 2015 I was sleeved on 2/23 and the only activity I do is walk. My largest incision is still sore and it still hurts to cough and laugh. I go for a follow up today, I'll let you know what he says.
Croaker 26 Posted March 4, 2015 I'd be cautious with any exercise requiring lots of twisting and reaching high for a few weeks after surgery. Torquing on your abdominal stitches could lead to a couple popping and an incisional hernia. I was sleeved 2/23. I'm up to 30 min on the treadmill at 3mph and 3% incline, then the ellipictal. Right now only managing about 10 minutes on that, with the goal of increasing the time spent. At four week post op I'll add weight lifting.
