Waiting for surgery date...

Recommended Posts

I've been waiting and waiting for my surgery to be scheduled. I am so upset. I haven't been sleeping (when I do I have nightmares) and I just wait by my phone all day for the call.

I have called them multiple times and always get some excuse... " we'll call within the week", etc.

I am extremely non-confrontational (nervous and sensitive) so I can't continuously call. :(

How long did everyone have to wait between finishing all pre-surgery requirements and getting a surgery date?

I really imagined I would have at least a date by now since I started the process in early December.

Our Drs office gave us projected dates on our first visit (4/23). My husband and I are doing it together on same date. We have just finished our last visit with nutritionist/dietician. My husbands insurance covers surgery, which is not my primary insurance-- so I'm going through the waiting process with my insurance, who doesn't cover procedure, so we can submit to his insurer. Hopefully, everything will stay on track with that date.

You must be relieved to be able to plan ahead.

I called the insurance company this afternoon and found out that i was approved but the doctors office doesnt even know yet. Now have to wait for them to call me and schedule an appt with the surgeon. That appt is when i will get my date. Am hoping for mid april.

I started the process at the end of January and I was hoping that by mid March I would have a surgery date. Unfortunately, I still have to complete a stress test and then get cleared from my pcp. I am hoping that I get sleeved by the end of April. Fingers crossed ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
