Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you have allergies to soy and dairy?

I had surgery (Gastic Bypass) on Dec 22. and knew it would be hard because of the allergy intollerances to soy and dairy but figured I would do ok with egg white protien and or brown rice protien or even bean protien. But as it has turned out I can not do any of them...I am struggling to get in Protein and was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how you dealt with it?

I am able to eat half a slice bacon or half an egg at a time, but as you can imagine, I can not get in enough protien that way, as I juggle trying trying to get in enough Water versus the food! It has been a long haul and I am worried I am not doing very well...

Any help would be greatly appriciated :)

Thanks Shi-

I have not had my surgery yet, but I am lactose intolerant. With milk, the most I can handle is skim milk. I usually take a Lactaid whenever I have dairy, though, and stay away from rich dairy such as ice cream. You also could try goat's milk. I have no issue with it. I found this link that might be helpful: http://www.woolwichdairy.com/innerpage.aspx?x=51MhbHavUoLiR5gWpVAMzMV5S%2BLeSUeoeOgQQMN8UHp7I7P1gnc1a%2B4fDPrZT0Sl

Hi Sheila

I had my surgery 2 years ago and while I was lactose intolerant before surgery I found that after surgery I don't do well with a lot of soy either so I've turned to alternatives like almond milk. I know this doesn't help when it comes to Protein supplements but maybe that would be a way to get some extra Protein.< /p>

Good luck,

Samantha

Hi Sheila,

I had my surgery 2 1/2 years ago and after the surgery I couldn't tolerate soy, whey or eggs. I ended up back in the hospital for 9 days with a pic line because I couldn't eat, I couldn't even tolerate water! I struggled for months trying to figure out what I could eat because I couldn't do the Protein drinks. I drink almond milk and I substitute eggs with flax seed and Water. I still struggle today with food because I'm very limited on what I can eat because of the intolerance I have to things. I find it so frustrating because soy is in everything and I can only eat chicken or turkey if it's minimally processed and doesn't have any chemicals or antibiotics in it. I know exactly how you feel and it's very frustrating. I've learned that I just have to experiment with different things and see how they affect me, I don't think I'm getting all the Protein and calories I need either and I'm so tired all the time. Anyway, if you have any questions or want someone to talk to you can talk to me. It can be extremely hard but I'm glad I had the surgery and I'd do it again even with all the issues I've had.

Take care,

Robin

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
