heartonmysleeve82 11 Posted March 3, 2015 Just wondering, do the Doctors place a drain in after surgery, if so how long does it remain in????
Dimka 4 Posted March 3, 2015 they put a drain in the left hip/waste area and they took mine off 24 hours after surgery.
samuelsmom 670 Posted March 4, 2015 Some doctors do routinely, others do not. I did not have one. From what I have read those who do have them, they are normally removed within a few days. I would suggest asking your surgeon what his protocol is.
Tauruslady5 154 Posted March 4, 2015 I agree with Samuelsmom. I, too, did not have one. I had my surgery in Hartford, CT. All my friend's who have had the surgery also did not receive a drain. What I can tell you is that some of us have 5 scars whereas I only have 4. I was told I prepped very well. So talk with your surgeon and he/she will give you all the answers you need before the surgery.
CountryGirl5584 115 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) I had mine placed during surgery and removed right before being discharged Edited March 4, 2015 by CountryGirl5584
gabby_megs 3 Posted March 4, 2015 I went home with a drain and it came out about 7 days after my surgery. It made me really sad, as my surgeon originally told me that most Sleeves do not get drains, so I immediately thought something didn't go right. My favorite nurse I had explained that a drain actually helps aid in the healing process and forces that excess Fluid out, plus it was nice to be able to monitor what was going on in there by the color of the fluid coming out. athena3127 199 Posted March 4, 2015 I was sleeved 11-4 and did have a drain until 11-6 when I was discharged from the hospital. All has been fine and wounds healed
CE24 23 Posted March 4, 2015 Agreed, speak with the surgeon all are different. I didn't have a drain or a catheter and I only had one incision in my belly button.
heartonmysleeve82 11 Posted March 4, 2015 Thanks everyone! I went to my appointment yesterday and they don't put a drain in.
CheleLynn45 615 Posted March 4, 2015 @gabby_megs thanks for the info......I was wondering about the drain thing too. I was sleeved on Oct 27 2014 and didn't have a drain either. When I started seeing people asking about drains I was wondering why some do and some don't?

Dajones 46 Posted March 4, 2015 I had a drain for two weeks after surgery. I complained about it but my doctor said it was necessary in case there was a leak or a Fluid build up. He's ultra-cautious though.
