Just wondering, do the Doctors place a drain in after surgery, if so how long does it remain in????

Yes they do. Mine was in for almost two weeks. They removed it at my first post op appointment. For me it was the worst part but survivable.

wow that's a long time...is there a reason why it remains in so long? doesn't it risk infection?

I was in the hospital for 4 days, had a more complex surgery including total hysterectomy with my sleeve. Trust me I wanted that thing out before I left but surgeon said no. He said he leaves it in that long because it can provide early marker for bleeds if there is a problem. I had no problems with infection but it was terribly uncomfortable.

I had mine for 3 days in the hospital. Didn't bother me a bit and came out without me realizing the nurse had pulled it out.

I had one when I woke up from surgery and it was removed just before I was discharged from the hospital 2 days after surgery. Mine stung like the dickens being removed, but I know that varies from person to person. It definitely helped to keep the swelling down and I really didn't have a lot of discharge after the first day. Good luck!

I had mine in for 2.5 days. She removed it in about 3 seconds. For me, the idea of having a drain in was much worse than having one in. ;)

Mine was removed before I went home, so it was only in for two days. Uncomfortable and annoying but really not that big of a deal. Removal was an extremely weird feeling but not painful.

I didn't have a drain. I guess some doctors don't put one in, or it depend on the patient!

Depends on the doctor. I was told usually sleeve patients don't have drains but they gave a lot of lap band revisions to bypass drains.

Sometimes it's gone before discharge and others have to go home with it.

I didn't have a drain or a catheter when I woke in the hospital.
