Anybody succeed with NO vitamin supplements?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I absolutely H..A..T..E the Vitamins. Before surgery I did not have this problem, but, vitamins make me feel icky as hell. I managed to get some into me on and off early on, but experienced nausea and upset tummy a lot. I'm almost 3 months now. Has anyone managed to stay healthy without supplementing?? *crosses fingers and hopes so*

Thanks.

I take nutrition seriously. i try to eat healthy but i also take Vitamins. Conventional Vitamins make me sick too - even 3 years out.

for Multi Vitamins I can take gummies or do the liquid vitamins like Eco Drink. Calcium - I can't handle the pills but I can handle the chewables. Vitamin D are small and don't make me sick. I take sublingual vit B complex drops. No sick tummy and i only need to do it a few times a week.

I have at least one premier Protein a day and that has quite a few vitamins in it too.

You can lose weight without supplements but you risk your long term health in my opinion.

I suggest you try to find ones you can tolerate. I can only do Gummy or chewable so I double up on those as they are not as good as the bariatric ones. If you are not getting good nutrients you run the risk of other problems like bone loss, Hair loss etc.

I don't know how expensive they are but I have seen Vitamin Patches. Like a nicotine patch but for Vitamins. It might be a good stop gap until your sleeve decides to not mind oral Vitamins. Lots of Patches seem to be available for B12.< /p>

Here is the first website I came across.

http://www.patchmd.com/

They have a live chat and are 100% USA made, located in Southern California. (Per the CS rep on Chat)

I would definitely advise that you get regular blood work done if you intend to not take Vitamins at all. Deficiencies in some vitamins are no joke and can be life threatening.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
