Stage 2 diet - Am I full?

Recommended Posts

I just started the second stage (puréed & moist and mushy). I know that we are supposed to stop eating when we are full. This might be a stupid question but how do I know when I'm full? I'm not even hungry at all. I am just eating because I have to and am scared to overdo it.

It's really best to just measure your foods during that stage. I found myself going from "not full" to "OMG I'M GOING TO DIE" with no warning in my soft food stage. So I measured everything out in little 2 oz. containers.

I will be in your stage after 4 days :) am currently having some mashed potato and thick Soup, I was hungry only twice in the last 10 days, I stop when I feel that I need to burp! I can eat different quantities depending on what am eating so measuring didn't work for me.

Just measure out the amount recommended by your doctor or nutritionist and eat that and then stop. We're eating such small amounts it's nearly impossible to overeat.

Hi there, we are told to have 2-3 tablespoons full or 6-9 teaspoons. ☺️☺️

My plan also called for eating 3 tablespoons max or "until satisfied" if that amount was less than 3 tablespoons. I talked about this with my dietician and she pointed out that eating "until satisfied" is different from eating "until full." Most people, especially morbidly obese people, will eat until full - until you get the sensation of "I can't eat another bite!" -- but what we should be aiming for is until satisfied. That is when you ask yourself, am I still hungry? Would I be okay with stopping eating now and walking away from this meal? If so, you are satisfied. You should not aim for "full" -- that way will lead to overeating and possibly stretching your sleeved stomach. But especially during the puree phase, your primary guide should be a measured amount, not some sensation from your stomach. Your stomach is still healing and can't properly tell you whether you have had enough (or too much) food.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
