I have a question. I was reading a post yesterday regarding people not losing so their Dr gave them an unfill. Why would that happen. I would think that if your not losing you'd need a fill not an unfill.

I've only had my band for almost a month so I'm still learing.

Thanks!

I have had 2 unfills. Getting the proper amount of restriction takes some adjustment. My first fill was 1.2cc and I was too tight-not getting fluids down. My doctor tried 1 cc the second time and again I had trouble getting my fluids in. I go again in a few weeks and we will try .5cc. Everyone's body is different and there are different band sizes, so fills vary quite a bit. Some people also have to get unfilled for pregnancies, other medical concerns/procedures or by personal choice.

Oh, also, if you are too tight, you may not get enough calories in causing your body to go into starvation mode. Or, you may rely too much on liquid calories and soft foods like mashed potatoes, creamy Soups, etc. Those have alot of fat and calories, so weight loss will slow or stop.

Can anyone help me understand that if my band is as full as it can get without completley closing the passage, why am I not losing weight..

I eat about 700-1000 calories a day and excersie 60 minutes a day.

How do people starve to death if the body goes into starvation mode and does not allow you to lose weight????????????????????????????????

The fact of the matter is: If you burn more than you take in, you should lose weight, right?

What am I missing?

Are you measuring? Sometimes you are building muscle which weighs more than fat. If you are getting your calories in and exercsing, take measurements! You may find when the scale doesn't move, you have built muscle and lost inches. Also, there are plateaus along the journey. Your weight loss may stall for a few weeks and then start coming off again. If it was as easy as counting calories, none of us would be fat in the first place! haha There are many factors that play into this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
