I am from southern NJ also! Cumberland County, Vineland. When is your surgery date? I have gone to see Dr. Patel in Linwood but I don't have a date yet for my surgery.

Hi, I am also from Ocean County and had my surgery up north, but I'm looking for a dr. closer to me so I can get my fills and not travel 2.5hrs away. I just got a bill from Horizon BC/BS for $900 for the fill with fluoroscope and I'm sick over this because I need to get another one but I'll be darned if I'm going to pay that much. How much do you pay for yr fills? And what insurance do you have?

I'm also from Ocean County, Manahawkin to be exact. Atlantic Care's program has monthly support group meetings, but I have trouble getting there as they are either when I am working or at after 6pm at night. I work down near the plae where the group meets, but I have to be at work from 7:30-2:30. I really don't want to hang out for another 3 hours for the support group. Does anyone know of a support group in say the Toms River area?

Hi Molly, I'm from the Toms River area (Manchester). I had my surgery in Montclair and have not been to a support meeting. It's like 3 hours round trip. Maybe we should call Community Hospital in Toms River to see if there is a group we can sneak into.

Wow! I'm from Toms River. I didn't realize there were some many from our neck of the woods. Go figure. Dr. Nusbaum has been trying like crazy to be able to get a fill center open in Community Medical Center as it's also a St. Barnabas. He keeps getting shut down because they tell him there's no need for one in our area. He told me to call regularly and harass the administrators. Maybe we should all call so that they realize there is a need for one locally. He figured he's come to this area once or twice a week, depending on need, for fills and follow-ups.

Libra and other Southern Jersey folk, my doctor is Dr. Strom in northern jersey. Last time I saw him he said he is opening an office down this way in August. I'll see what I can find out. Hey Libra, I too have 31 more pounds to goal. I've lost 60 since October and am sooooo happy I had the lap band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
