It is awesome to see so many Boston or close to it on this board. I'm scheduled for the Beth Israel in late May so I haven't had my RNY a yet. Just trying to gather as many facts as possible.

Thank you all for helping

@@msmisaacs I am in Hyde Park, right near Dedham.

I don't think the Shampoo really makes your hair thicker, it just FEELS like it! It's awesome. I would try the Biotin for sure though. I don't think there is any downside to taking that.

Where did you have your surgery? I had mine at St. Elizabeth's in Brighton. We have a support group at the hospital twice a month as well if you are ever looking for a group. I don't know if it's just for people who had the surgery there but I could find out if you were interested. Though you have to be prepared for the group--it's mostly about food addiction and not everyone is ready to hear those words.

Thank you! I really appreciate that. I had my surgery at Winchester Hospital. It's really close to home which seemed important since I wanted to make sure I stayed involved with my doctor and our support groups. I used the same surgeon who removed my gall bladder last year, mainly because he is really tough and expects strict compliance, and I knew I needed a bit of a drill sargeant. I researched and went to an info. session at MGH but the program just wasn't for me, even though I know it's a great one.

Love the recommendation for Texas Tea - I am a girlie girl who loves Sephora so any excuse to buy some cosmetics to treat myself works for me. :)

Hi there - I just had RNY on 2/23, so Im not too far ahead yet but am happy to act as a resource and answer any questions you might have. I am only a week out but I am so glad I did this. It's hard work for sure, but I know it will be something that helps me make the changes I have needed to make (and tried to) for a long time.

I bought fast-dissolve Biotin from GNC and it's by far the tastiest and easiest medication that I take. I'm pretty sure it's this one. http://m.gnc.com/Healthy-Natural-Systems-TriSorb-Biotin-Delicious-Cherry-Flavor/product.jsp?productId=18437916

Is this pretty effective for you?

I definitely notice a difference. Biotin won't prevent hair loss, but it'll promote growth and regrowth. I haven't hit the typical Hair loss window yet, but I started taking biotin right away to hedge my bets. Now, when I pull my hair into a ponytail at the gym, I see a little bitty halo of new hairs surrounding my face. They're too short for the ponytail, so very noticeable. I've been watching them come in and start to grow out over the past 6 weeks. While I've done everything possible to prevent hair loss (and there isn't much to be done), I can at least take comfort in all the new hair growing to take its place if needed. My nails are nice and strong too.

I started to go to Beth Israel but then changed my mind. They do have some good doctors and a good program. I just didn't like their NUT and nurse! And the parking there was way too expensive! lol. But they are a good program and will take very good care of you. I know several people who had their surgery there and are extremely happy that they went there.

I don't know about the squeeze packets but Biotin is sold pretty much anywhere that Vitamins are sold. I've bought it at Shaw's Supermarket, CVS, and Walgreen's.

The squeeze packet is once a day. The orange tastes like a dreamsicle. I got them off Amazon. I'm almost 4 months post op and they work amazing with the biotin! post-236634-14258453952373_thumb.jpg

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
