Pre-Op Liquid Diet -- SO hungry!

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the group and am scheduled for surgery on March 16th. Today is my first day of my 2-week pre-op liquid diet. I've only gotten half-way through the day and am already SO hungry! :(

Any words of wisdom as to how long it takes your tummy to "adjust" to just shakes, jell-o & broth?

Thanks, fellow sleevers!

Fortunately it doesn't take long. For me it was about 2 days before the hunger was gone. After that I wasn't hungry at all. good Luck!

The first 2-3 days are the hardest, but I'm not gonna lie, the whole thing is HARD. Hang in there!

My experience was different. Im on the 8th day of my 14 day pre-op diet and Im hungry most of the time. If my stomach isn't gurgling it feels empty and gassy. I have 3 Protein shakes a day, Water, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. Sorry to sound like a Debbie downer but this diet is horrible.

It's very hard! And you will actually feel like you're starving for the first 3 days or so. Get all different kinds of sugar free jellos and Popsicles. Those help! And the shakes curbed my appetite a lot too. I had to stay busy doing whatever I could to keep my mind off of food. I went to bed early every night. I took some pictures of myself naked and looked at them every time I felt I was gonna cheat. :/ TMI but it helps!! I felt angry and down the whole time and that is normal. The 2nd week is a downhill slide with much more ease! I'm 14 hours away from being sleeved! And I thought I'd never make it! You can do it! :)

Starting my Pre-Op liquid diet on 03/06/05 for my surgery on 03/13/15. I have not heard from my doctors office yet with the insurance approval, I went on online to the insurance and I saw that I was approved for 03/13/15 so I guess I'm approved for surgery. Sooo excited

I have just completed day 2, only twelve more to go. I too was very hungry today, more so than yesterday. The broths fill me up most and I've been drinking Water consistently through out the day.

The Popsicles definitely help and I just made a big bowl of Jello to set overnight for snack impulses.

I have a great boyfriend who is not getting sleeved but doing the liquid thing with me, slightly modified to include fruits, so I do not have to agonize over watching him indulge in solid food.

I was saying to myself, I'm so hungry even broccoli or cabbage would help, but my surgeon has me on strict liquid only.

Anyhow, best of luck to all. I'm down 3 lbs since 2 nights ago and looking forward to the scale's final result on surgery day which is the 16th.

My hunger left on day 4. I got through it by drinking lots of cups of warm beef bouillon and Protein Shakes. My body adjusted. And I lost 10 pounds! The closer you get, the easier it will be.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
