Totally stopped losing weight

Recommended Posts

I am 3 months out and after two months, I totally stopped losing weight. I tried to eat less, exercise more. I tried to eat more, exercise less. I tried it all. I only lost 35 pounds since the surgery, and this was my biggest fear. All of my hopes and dreams are shattered.

Don't beat yourself up. I have yet to do the surgery but you are not alone in this. There are alot of people in your same position right now. i have watched tons of youtube videos about it and read forums where other people are going through the same thing. Just stay active and following the diet to a T and everything will be fine. I have noticed many people hidding their scales because they become consumed with the numbers.

totally step away from the scale!i only way 1x a month when I go to dr.let your clothes weigh you in between.believe me you will see the difference in your clothes.it takes time for the numbers to catch up on the scale.when I get to my goal then I will start weighing myself a little more often but not until then.get off the roller coaster other wise you will be driving yourself crazy!!!

When was the last time that you lost almost 20lbs a month? Any progress is progress. You didn't gain 35 pounds in 2 months, losing sure won't be as fast either. Any progress is progress! Be proud of what you have accomplished and keep the faith that it will continue. Your body needs time to catch up from losing 35lbs so quickly... Slow your body time to do its job!

I was recently in a six week stall after four months of losing. Pre surgery my mind would have said, I knew this would happen. Go eat (fill in the blank) because darn it, you tried.

Post surgery me was still disappointed the scale wasn't changing. I added Water aerobics. I started a couch to 5 k running program. No movement. Heck...now what. I went back to liquids and really pushed them for three days. Hello! Down seven pounds in nine days. The body was changing but the scale wasn't ready to show it!

So keep switching things up. I now swear by increasing fluids. Oh, and I half walked, half RAN 3.106 miles Saturday to practice for a real 5K. And I liked it!

liquids baby all the way!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
