Anyone have any tips for getting the gas out? I'm 5 days post op and this is the worst I have had it so far! The GasX isn't helping right now. Laying down on my back is impossible. Could use whatever tips you have available. . . still on clear liquid diet, so some things are out of the question. Help!!:help:

Get a heating pad. I felt your pain, is it in your shoulder? A heating pad was some advice I got on this website and it helped BIG TIME.

Good Luck, it is worth the pain. Be strong.

It's in my shoulder and on my left side. I can feel it just swirl around in there. . not knowing if it wants to go north or south! I'm going to drag out the heating pad! Thanks for the info! I just took a walk. . .didn't help too much! I know it's all "part of the process". I'm hanging in!

Thank you so much!!!!!

Some on the board here have said...to lay with pillows under your stomach for support, head down, butt up and it helps release it that way. good luck

I found walking and swing my arms helped a little. Maybe it just distracted me into thinking I was doing something useful. In any case, it took my mind of the pain.

I also took a few hot showers and let the pulsing Water hit my back shoulder area. That felt good for awhile, too.

It does hurt but thankfully, it doesn't last forever. It just feels like it does. Just keep telling yourself you're going to be thin soon and the pain will be a distant memory.

whew!! thank you all for your suggestions!!!! I was finally able to "release" quite a bit early this morning, and holy moly, I feel like a whole new person!!! I found that laying on my side (with a pillow propped underneath my swollen belly) REALLY helped too!!

I'll be walking a lot today!! Don't want to have to deal with this again tonight!!!

Thanks again!!!

Hi, I am having my first fill tomorrow. One month since I got banded. I just wanted you to know that my 5th and 6th days were the worst for me, by the 7th, the gas subsided. I actually got a swedish massage to get rid of all the shoulder pain on day 6. I showed the therapist my scars, told her exactly why i was there and for one whole hour she worked my gas bubbles behind my shoulder blades and lowerback. That was the most relaxing, gentlest massage I have ever gotten.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
