Not hungry! nothing taste good!

Recommended Posts

Started 2 week pre-op on January 20 and had RNY on February 3. I'm down 52 lbs...which is great but I'm just not hungry and nothing taste good to me. I'm Making myself eat and drink but it's very unsatisfying and my stomach feels over full most the time. Does this get better over time?

It will get a little better over time. It is common to lose hunger after surgery. It makes losing weight almost automatic. I found that mixing food groups together added flavor back into foods. Also eating foods with a liquid component made it easier to eat, less painful. As a result I began to use home made high Protein chili and Soups. I still rely on them today.

Here is a link with some recipes. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

James Marusek I read your article and it's very informative. The recipes look fairly easy and tasteful. I will most certainly try them. Thank you for responding.

Chili has been a life saver! I am three months post op and never hungry. Eating is a job! I heard it does get better and for now I am taking advantage of my no hunger mode. Heard that doesn't last forever. ????

I agree! The never being hungry is great and it is a chore to eat but I'm afraid of not getting enough calories and my body going into starvation mode...eek!#

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
