LisaMG 5 Posted October 23, 2004 Does anyone out there have a good solution for hives? I've never had hives in my life and now my face is COVERED in them! I really do resemble the hunchback with a narled face! I've been under so much stress with issues in my life I've broke out badly with these things. I need something other than benedryl, that puts me to sleep.< /span> I have rubbed anti itch creme on them but thats not enough.
New Hope 37 Posted October 23, 2004 Lisa G., here's a pretty detailed website about Hives :www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000845.htm It says apply cool compresses or take a cool bath. Avoid hot showers and baths. Do not wear tight clothes. Apply Calamine Lotion. Take antihistamines (Benadryl). It's caused by your body releasing histamines. It can come from an allergic reaction to something, and/or stress. (You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?) Hope this helps and you get some relief FAST! You also might speak with your pharmacist. Good luck!
Iluvharleys 15 Posted October 23, 2004 I only had them once, and the doctor told me to make of paste of Water and baking soda. I put it on them and they all went away. I was pretty bad too.
La_madam 20 Posted October 23, 2004 My son gets them all the time and he takes the over the counter Claritin or prescription Alegra ..it works great
LisaMG 5 Posted October 24, 2004 These are all great ideas, thanks ladies you've been very helpful. I'm gonna go now and take a cool shower then find some benedryl since it's time to go to bed anyway. The more I look into this computer the more swollen my eyes are getting! I do have claritin, I don't have to take it often but I did notice me sneezing ALOT yesterday and this morning. Maybe it's a combination of all sorts of things that has triggered these things to surface. You know I never had allergies until after my 2nd child. Never when I was a child. Now Is'nt that strange to y'all? Did anyone else experience allergic reactions after they were an adult?
tellie 0 Posted October 24, 2004 Hi Lisa, I started with multiple allergies and hay fever at 12 or so. Maybe hormone related I dont know. For hives I take phenergan, works well. I used to take clorotrimeton but it would lower my blood pression and I would faint, not good. Hope they go away soon! tellie
PamRN 0 Posted October 24, 2004 My daughters both get stress related hives. They use prescription zyrtec for hives, it seems to work great for them. I keep extra in the medicine cabinet for breakouts. It usually only takes a dose or two to clear it up.
LisaMG 5 Posted November 4, 2004 My hives are gone! Well mostly, they ony itch the tiniest bit every now and then through out the day. People don't even see them anymore only me when I take my make-up off. The thing that gave me the most relief was the cold compresses and the anti-itch creme combined. Also started taking my claritin again, maybe thats helping too.
tellie 0 Posted November 5, 2004 Hi Lisa, great news! I am glad they are mostly gone. Keep taking the antihistamine for a while I guess that should keep it at bay. cheers tellie
whippledaddy 5 Posted November 5, 2004 Lisa, I know I'm reading this late, but Patty gets hives in the winter (she's allergic to being cold!) and Benadryl makes a lotion. You put it right on the hives and you dont' get sleepy. But remember, it counts as part of your daily allowance, so if you take it orally too, don't take too much. the best me 6 Posted March 13, 2006 Bumping because I have Hives!!! I'm suspecting stress-related, but really now, could that be true? I am certain I have been through more stressful periods in my life than this past week and I never had hives then? What's up with this? I'm doing oral benadryl twice a day, and applying topical benadryl gel as needed. The breakouts clear up and move to another part of my body, round and round we go. Hips, back, shoulders, neck, arms, inner thighs, all over!!! This has been going on since Thursday (today is Sunday) and I'm pretty through with it. Anyone heard of this going on for 4+ days? I haven't changed detergents or soaps or deoderant or anything like that. I haven't taken ANY meds since Thurday morning. I took my Wellbutrin like I have been for several weeks now, but I did also take a Singulair for seasonal allergies. That's the ONLY thing I did differently. And that was 4 days ago. Should this still be happening? I know we have some good nurses out there, I'm hoping for some clues? What could this indicate? I could call my doc but I'm not sure what else I could do but treat it with the benadryl. :help:
paula 4 Posted March 13, 2006 Only wish I was a nurse, but anyhow ~ Gosh Kathy, how miserable! truly miserable. Last spring I developed hives on my lower half. Itched me to death. I linked them to the new jeans I had just bought (did days of thinking about it). Even the areas of my arms that touched the jeans developed hives. And even though the jeans stopped at my waist, the hives went to my chest. strange. Hives are NO fun! I feel for ya. ((hugs))
the best me 6 Posted March 13, 2006 I wish I could link this to something. I woke up at 3am with huge welts on my inner thighs...ouch! I was scratching in my sleep. I used the advice here and put a cold compress on them, drank some more benadryl, applied some more topical benadryl, and went back to sleep. Oh, and there was a rash across my upper tummy, below my boobs, too. I'm calling the pharmacist about the Wellbutrin/Singulaire combo. Other than that, I can't think where this has come from. paula 4 Posted March 13, 2006 Try stopping the Singular for a day or so - see if it gets any better. You havent bought any new jeans/pants lately???
dolphin_dreams 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Get some Aveeno. It is a lifesaver. My doctor recommended this. Aveeno has natural colloidal oatmeal in it and it really helped me. I got the packets that you put in your bath Water as well as the lotion. I'm sending soothing thoughts your way.
