My story that I think is a success!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am a 38 yo woman. I am 5'6" HW398, SW 358, CW 202. I think being a size 10 (with my skin roll) is 100% success. My surgeon on the other hand does not. She won't let me have skin removal surgery till I am <200. <200 not 202 not 201, 199 or lower. I set a personal goal of a pant size not a weight because I didn't want to fail myself and I am past it. I wanted to be a 13 yet here I am in a size med waist cincher and 10 jeans that fall off my waist and hug my pelvic bone due to skin. Angelinnc32 congrats on your weight lost and your choice to being healthy you have done an amazing job , thank you for sharing your story because it is an inspiration , does your doctor state why you must be 200 pounds even? I am sure it is not a health issue , my doctor told me that I can not have any surgery to remove any skin until I am at least 1year post opt and he really perfers two years post opt unless you are having major complications. Because he states by then you would have lost all that you are going to loose , I am currently 9 months post opt and I am looking forward to loosing more weight. Good luck and keep us posted, by the way have you considered going to a different doctor for your surgery?

She wants me there because she says if I'm over 200 it could mess up the skin surgery and I am more likely to get skin infections even tho that's why I need the removal early. I just think it's crazy because I was told not to set unrealistic goals for myself and then I get this thrown at me at the preop for the skin removal surgery and she cancels the surgery.

Angelinnc32 wow I understand now, I do agree with your statement that it seems unfair since you never set a direct goal and now you have one. I am sure you will reach that goal as your doctor is suggesting and then you can have your surgery. Keep us posted on your progress. I will not even be considered until after its has been 1 year , but now i am wondering if I should wait until i am 2 years post opt, if I have to get to 200 pounds I still have 32 more pounds to go and my personal goal is 170.

Yeah it hurt me and made me so much more determined to prove her wrong. I've over come losing my young husband, an abusive parent and being told I would never walk again(yet I do) I will show her she's wrong by denying me this surgery at the preop appt.

Well I did it. I am now down to 198.4 lbs. My doctor is planning surgery for June as there are no OR slots till then. I plan on losing more so she can't deny me my surgery for any reason.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
