2/2015RN 37 Posted March 2, 2015 So I'm day 3 post op and I'm having waves of heartburn. It's right in the middle of my chest. Comes and goes. Advice? My throat is also sore but I'm sure that's expected after having a tube down it. I also am not peeing enough. I pee just feel like I'm holding fluid... samuelsmom 670 Posted March 2, 2015 @@2/2015RN Are you on medication for the heartburn? I would call the doctor about that. For the fluids, after having surgery it is not uncommon to have a lot of Fluid on board. Keep drinking as much as you can and you should start having a lot more output. The sore throat should be about gone. If you still feel like you are holding Fluid and the sore throat doesn't clear within a few days I would call the doctor's office. 2/2015RN 37 Posted March 2, 2015 I have the liquid galvescon (sp?) and Prilosec. So far I've read on here it's not uncommon post op. Everything is healing. I feel more concerned I'm not peeing.. Going to try and go on a long walk today. I using cough drops for my sore throat. Hopefully that will help
samuelsmom 670 Posted March 2, 2015 Do you have a problem with Fluid retention? It takes the body a little while to equilibrate fluids after surgery. Be sure you are drinking enough fluids also. a daily weight for a few days might not be a bad idea. Be sure to do it at the same time and in the same type of clothing. If the Fluid output does not increase or your weight starts to increase, call the doctor.
RedSalamander 148 Posted March 3, 2015 The dreaded SLIMES! I am the slime QUEEN, you guys. My surgeon says that she mostly hears that from people in the earlier appointments, and it tends to relax and go away later. But dude...I have slimed an impressive number of times. And I've slimed impressively an impressive number of times. I've run to bathrooms and ducked into alleys to do my trademark puke/burp/spit combo. I ROCK. Seriously, it's been a learning process for me. I'm figuring out what causes me to slime, and what did last week that won't this week. But I was totally not expecting to be such a slimer. BrandNewCB 50 Posted March 4, 2015 I had my surgery on Monday and was feeling great before I came home yesterday. First, I gained 7 or 8 lbs in the hospital. I am assuming my body is holding onto fluids right now. Also, throat hurts, swallowing is difficult, and I have the worst taste in my mouth. Oh, and my tummy is killing me... I want the morphine pump back asap! Please tell me all this is normal?!
bewell 222 Posted March 5, 2015 2/2015RN I had a terrible taste in my mouth for weeks. And as I said earlier, everything tasted weird. Only now 7 weeks postop can I drink regular Water. All I could drink for weeks was organic clear apple juice. Some people don't have pain but I did. The oxy-codine liquid worked great for me and I used all of it. I took a nap today and woke up with pain. I take the pain meds still as I need. My throat is still sore and my drain site is sore. I'm having a hard time getting my fluids in. Any advice? giggleblue 64 Posted March 5, 2015 burping! all the time. seems like even with Water, i'm burping. i can also feel my stomach and the Water moving around in there and then into my intestines. it's really weird. i also get waves of heartburn, which leave quickly. i've been taking the pepcid as instructed to minimize the acid. i thought i was only to take it if i had acid, but the PA said to take it regardless, as they want the acid to remain low in the stomach so that it can heal properly. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one getting waves of heartburn. Such an odd sensation. Never suffered from heartburn before only occasionally when I had spicy food
JCP 619 Posted March 8, 2015 I did not see the change in how thing tasted coming. No one warned me. Even Water grossed me out. It took about 3 months to go away.
GEAUX SAINTS 143 Posted March 8, 2015 I tried an abundance of Protein Shakes prior to surgery. I FINALLY found one I like...prior to surgery!!! I started drinking it after surgery and from day one, it's disgusting!!! It makes me soooo sick to my stomach. I have to drink it right before I go to bed, or I'm useless!!! I get nauseous, sweaty, gassy, etc! Just UGH!!!
GEAUX SAINTS 143 Posted March 8, 2015 Oh, I just thought of something else. Spicy foods. I am from the New Orleans metro area and we eat spicy food. I've always love it. Ever since surgery, spicy food makes me cough...a lot!!! Whether it's just black pepper, or highly spicy, I cough! It's like I'm overly sensitive to it! I sure hope this goes away!!!
