bewell 222 Posted February 27, 2015 What happened post-op that no-one told you about or "you just didn't see that coming!" For me: Vomited brushing my teeth (didn't see that coming....nurse said it can happen) Water tasted terrible....pre-op Water is mostly what I drank...it took 6 weeks for water to taste sort of normal SMELLS....everything smelled funny.....and often made me nauseous. Also 6 weeks before it was better, still not normal Amount of food.....for weeks my cat ate more than I did and I was jealous the way he wolfed it down! ONLY 300-600 calories......OK, maybe someone told me but I was certain I'd starve to death if I only ate 600 calories for days on end. BUT NO and now I accept that a max of 800 calories now and probably 1000 a day, for the rest of my life will be the new NORMAL!! Didn't see that coming. alexsisv 139 Posted February 28, 2015 Great discussion. ... for me it was the slimes.
kcdavidson42 10 Posted February 28, 2015 What are the slimes?
Veronica Page 488 Posted February 28, 2015 Sliming is when you have a built up of saliva and you tend to throw it up. It is mostly caused when you drink to close to eating.
E-girl 98 Posted February 28, 2015 Or if you eat too much too fast. I used to get the slims but not anymore. I am 3 years out and as far as calories go you will not be at 800-1000 for the rest of your life. Your sleeve relaxes after year 2 to 2 1/2 so then eating is easier almost normal. I wasn't prepared for the shaking feeling in my legs when I forgot to eat. That freaked me out the first time when I didn't know what was happening.
holliwood1980 143 Posted February 28, 2015 I wasn't prepared for slimed either. Also I didn't expect to feel so emotional sometimes. I feel like a hormonal pregnant lady!
bewell 222 Posted February 28, 2015 E-girl...I expect I'll be more active at my goal weight and can eat more but how do you keep the weight off eating more? Just seems in the past if I go over 1,200 calories on a regular basis, I gain weight. An an average how many calories can you eat and maintain your goal weight! BTW: congrats on you long term success! Way to go!!!
jenbaby75 283 Posted February 28, 2015 I am only 10 days post op. I honestly can hardly tell I had surgery. If it wasn't for incisions, zero hunger, irregular poop, and eating/drinking taking more time, I wouldn't know I had it. zero complications, I feel amazing. I have been a bit more emotional than normal the past 2 days. I have no regrets, aside from not doing this 10 years ago.
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted February 28, 2015 Uh ... I'm already eating over 1,000 calories, and I'm still losing weight. What your early post-op experience is doesn't translate to lifelong maintenance experience. IMHO.
Kindle 8,667 Posted February 28, 2015 [*]ONLY 300-600 calories......OK, maybe someone told me but I was certain I'd starve to death if I only ate 600 calories for days on end. BUT NO and now I accept that a max of 800 calories now and probably 1000 a day, for the rest of my life will be the new NORMAL!! Didn't see that coming. I was up to 1000 -1200 calories by 6 months and still continued to lose....10+ pounds below my goal weight. I've maintained with 1400-1600 calories. The "didn't see it coming" thing for me was I wouldn't miss drinking alcohol. I used to be a BIG drinker....cocktails after work everyday and major "partying" on weekends. My college friend who had Lapband years ago said it would happen, and turned out she was right. I don't get the buzz I used to and it's just not worth the calories. bewell 222 Posted February 28, 2015 Kindle and VSGAnn2014 Thank you! Very good to know I will be able eat more calories and still lose weight. I think I'm just trying to pschyc myself into accepting how I eat has to change now, forever. That way I can accept that the big successive daily binge days are over. And I really won't "starve" if I only eat 1,000 calories. Thanks again!
artblitz 21 Posted March 1, 2015 I have had NO nausea, no vomiting, no "slimes" as you all call them. I have lost the sensation/taste for about everything. If I drink one more sweet Protein drink I am going to scream. Everything is tooo sweet. I got so hungry for something savory I ordered hot and sour Soup...strained it 2 X, thinned the broth and ate small sips of it. It was sooo good but now I cannot look at it. My friends who was sleeved 9 months ago, says things like that come back. I too, have had no complications. If you did not know it, you would not know it has occured. I am a little bit tired...but it is still winter here and it is cold. So, go figure.
monopoly2015 27 Posted March 1, 2015 I didn't see the Constipation coming. Wow
HMR 33 Posted March 2, 2015 1. Feeling nauseous still at 3 month PO. 2. Losing the enjoyment of eating sweets. 3. Everything tasting "not right".
bewell 222 Posted March 2, 2015 Yeah, that's right. A too sweet Protein drink is terrible. I had diarrhea for 5 weeks, not Constipation. It all resolved now, but my little toilet trout are so wee compared to what they used to me.
