I had no complications with my surgery or my recovery. I never developed dumping syndrome either. I am 5 1/2 months out and have lost 65lbs since my surgery and 85lbs total since I started my WLS journey. I have had small issues with eating certain foods. Like if I eat anything super sweet I get extremely nauseous. Also I have had issues with eating certain hard fruits and veggies like carrots or apples. They tend to get stuck and I end up throwing them up. I just stay away from those types of food. It's a learning process. Your body is going to change drastically. All you can do is ease yourself into it. Go slow. Only try one new thing at a time. You'll do great!

I'm seven months out and i haven't had any complications either. I try staying within my plan, and when i do eat something as a treat , its not something that will cause dumping such as honey teddy grams which doesnt have alot of sugar and has Protein also.

I am having RNY on August 18, starting the Protein diet in 4 days!

My question is: ''According to your experience, can I go on my planned trip to Florida 2.5 weeks after my surgery.

We drive about 5 hrs a day, could easily stop every hour to walk around, we pull a trailer so, cold Water, anything I need is available with me. At that rhythm it would take us 4.5 days. We live in Canada, 10 min from the Vermont border.

We drive a brand new very comfortable truck.

Am I crazy? Should I cancel? We have reservations on the beach for 2 months !

Madeleine...the only way to answer that is to say trust your body. It will let you know if you're up to it. I do know the 5 hour drive from Toronto back to Sudbury 3 days after surgery was taxing. I also know I would get very tired really fast for the first few weeks. I made the mistake of just hitting Walmart 8 days post op...and I felt horrible just being up for that hour. Everyone is different. Though after 8 months I have still had no complications and everything is perfect with me...surgerys can wear you out. Age makes a difference as well. I'm sure if I was in my 20-30's...it might have been different. I'm 54.

I haven't had any complications. I am 8 1/2 months out. I only have dumped a couple of times, and that was with eggs and a full Quest bar. I haven't tried sugar or high fat foods and don't plan on it. Best decision ever!

Zero complications since my early morning rny in 2009. I was released from the hospital after lunch the next day. My scars healed within two weeks. I didn't need my pain medication.

The serious problems are talked about because people need support and reassurance. Easy recoveries like mine are discussed less often, but I do not believe I'm unique.

MSWDiet

I'm right inline with you. Now 8 months out and zero problems. I actually went to a baseball game in Toronto this weekend. I ate whatever I wanted, healthy of course, for 24 hours...and it was all good. I even lost a pound...lol Probably from all the walking around town. We got lost once...;)

I'm so happy to hear such positive stories here!! I will be having bypass September 2nd!! Had lap band 2007 and sleeve surgery January 2015....sleeve sucked, NO restriction, lost 15 prior to surgery, it's all back!! My sleeve was made bigger due to scar tissue from band. Scared about bypass and this being my 3rd surgery, but I have complete trust in my surgeon (this time) and hope to get these last 45 lbs off. Any advice would be welcomed. Ty

I would love to hear more about your experience. I am having sleeve to bypass revision and I am nervous too. Much more than I was for the sleeve.

I'm having surgery this Oct. but I have had 4 friends have surgery in the past 4 years...not one of them had a single complication! I think that is why I don't really have any worries. One of them is a nurse and said she's never felt better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
