Please tell me this is normal...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Happy Monday :phanvan I am 3 1/2 weeks PO and it seems that I am going through this wonderful stage called "bandster he--" I do great Monday - Friday and then on the weekends it seems like I'm so hungry all the time. I know that I am not in my same "routine" so I don't know if that's it or not... but it just seems like I get so hungry.

My first fill is June 21st and I'm counting down the days...

Is this normal??

My Dr told me to eat no more than a cup of food. So that is what I am trying to stick to and sometimes it's easy (I can't eat that much) and others I could eat way more.

I hope everyone is doing well... I'm down 26 lbs over all (counting my preop diet) so that's wonderful. I'm playing with the same 2 lbs. Up 2 down 2, up 2, down 2. I know this time is for healing but I do not wait to gain!

Have a great week!

This is totally normal until you have your first fill and then it may take a few fills to get to the point where a cup of food is enough. I felt like i could eat a horse until I got my first fill. And when I got the fill the weight came off. I know everyone will say this is the time for healing and any weight loss is a bonus, which I am sure is not what you are looking to hear, but sadly it's the truth, maybe try to do some walking at this point and drink lots of Water and it will help curb the hunger. Just stay strong count down those days until your fill and you will do great!!

I am chiming in to say I know EXACTLY how you feel - you just put everything I'm going through into words. I'm 3 weeks PO and I'm starting to struggle with food choices. Especially on the weekends..

There are times when I eat a cup and I'm full, then other times when I can eat a whole plate of food. And I'm so terrified of regaining any weight.

I guess we're in this boat together... I'll help paddle and we'll steer clear of the weekend hunger. Just wanted you to know you're not alone.

Hey Guys,

Remember, this first six weeks or so is about healing and adjusting to the band. It isn't really about losing weight, altho many people do. Most all of us have gone through it and have to adjust a lot in that time frame.

Also, remember, Protein first...curbs hunger pains. You can eat several small meals and of course, drink your water! Give it time...patience!

Shawn

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
