I'm so happy I ran across this thread, I just had my surgery on 9/30 and I'm so hungry and know I'm not getting enough Protein let alone food. I can't eat much before I feel a plug in my throat. Horrible feeling. Thanks again and good luck ladies.

P.S. I hope alcohol is not gone forever...

Dear Dixie

They say to stay completely away from calorie rich liquids eg juices, soft drinks that aren't diet, etc etc so yes that includes booze. However, there is a lot to be said for a medicinal red wine every other night. Good for the heart and basically let's face it we have very small stomachs now so any more than that and we are under the table!! I have been known to overload on a weekend or two and have paid dearly for it not only with a hangover but because you are drinking at the same rate you used to but eating less you get very drunk, very quickly and can throw up...which is bad for your band. So these days I am a one or two glass girl! If you don't like wine then have your spirits with soda Water, Water, or ice with squeezed lemon or lime. No softdrinks.

I actually couldn't get the Protein Drinks I needed to have for the two weeks prior to surgery or after (supplier problems) so my dietician just put me on a very special restricted diet of certain veges and salads and things and I had no problems after my surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
