smcobos2 43 Posted May 17, 2015 This is my first time posting. My surgery is tomorrow, May 18th and I am totally terrified! I didn't have to do a diet before the surgery and I don't understand how I won't be hungry after the surgery. Can anyone explain this to me? I have so many fears about being able to stay on the diet after surgery because I know my whole life is going to change. Any others going in tomorrow, May 18th? I am also getting surgery done tomorrow! The reason your hunger is drastically reduced is because hunger receptors on your stomach (that connect to your brain) pouch are removed and you are left with a smaller (less receptors) stomach. Tracie'sNewLife 0 Posted May 17, 2015 Brenda L Robertson this is Tracie'sNewLife. I life in NY but right next to New Jersey. I'm having my surgery done in New Jersey. I was glad you, and so many others came forward to tell me you have the same surgery date. It's really reassuring to feel that I'm in this with you all. I have people who love and support me but unless you're getting cut also, others may not totally understand. Thanks for the support. If we don't touch base tomorrow, let's definately reach out on the 19th. I wish you all well tomorrow!
sharob 3 Posted May 17, 2015 I went to the grocery store today to shop for my post-op diet. OMG!! All I could think of when I was in the store and looking at things was "well I will never get to eat that again..." "I wish I had eaten that before getting on the pre-op diet..." "how will I live without eating those again?" What an ordeal! Has anyone else experienced this? It made me want to cancel my surgery! Help - comments appreciated. well you will be fine just wait. I was the same way and I wasn't as strong I did cancel my surgery. And now I regret it.

I keep thinking about how I am going to cut my favorite recipes down to small portions. ValerieDee1975 55 Posted May 18, 2015 Hi everyone!! Ok, just went through the most horrific thing. As you may know, i am about 5 days post op now and it's been going great...I have even lost about 8 lbs. since surgery. My doc's only hiccup (not really a worry) was that I hadn't had a BM...ok, the crap literally hit me today and just did not want to come out and I know we are not supposed to push really hard, but sometimes you can't help it...nothing was working. Some background: I take Morphine twice a day anyway for degenerative disc disease in my low back, so I have prescription Colace to take with it...no help. I finally had to call the on call doc at my hospital and he said I could take my liquid Magnesium Citrate (already had some in house cause my Mom used to use it) and to add a Miralax to my daily pill list as well as double up on my Colace. Well, I hadn't even drunk half of the Mag Cit (found mine at the local Dollar Tree! They are great for some stuff) when stuff started moving! The doc said that with that there may be more cramping, but at that point I didn't care, just wanted relief! I got it, after A TON of sweating, shaking, pleading, etc...it passed...THANK THE GODDESS!!! I feel so much better now! Moral to my story? Be prepared...even if you have never had any troubles in that area, have some stuff on hand, better safe than sorry! Sorry if this was too graphic for some, but we are talking about changing our anatomy and are all adults...this stuff is an issue and we need to talk about it...to help the next one be prepared if nothing else! Good luck to all those waiting and Welcome to the other side for our post ops! V

I get how you feel...I did lot of saying goodbye to my fave foods...but guess what? Eventually you more than likely will be able to eat those things again or try new stuff...it may be a little while and only small bits at a time, but you will be able to...keep that in mind. I was told not to buy too much cause sometimes (for unknown reasons) that our tastes can change...like if you like chocolate pre you might not like the taste after...so far, that hasn't been true for me. I made up some sf choc pudding today with some added Protein Powder in chocolate and it is tasty! I recommend saying a good bye to your faves with the idea that it will be ok, if it takes a while to have again or never again....keeping it positive really does make it easier and the more positive you push yourself to be the more real it becomes Good Luck!
