Did your shoe size change after weight loss surgery?

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd seen this question asked before, but if so I can't find the thread.

Did your shoe size change after surgery? It seems like my size got bigger as I gained weight, but that was so long ago I can't remember it clearly.

I'm scheduled for surgery in 23 days. Not thinking, I bought two new pairs of summer shoes a few days ago and now I'm wondering if they'll even fit when summertime gets here.

What was your experience with this? Should I take the shoes back? I got a great deal on them - but not if I won't be able to wear them.

I lost 1/2 a size in my shoes and started off with pretty narrow feet.

Looking forward to this happening - I have a terrible time finding shoes big enough.

I lost a half to a full size, and whole lot of width. I'd take them back.

I have lost half a size on some shoes but most importantly the width has changed drastically so every pair of shoes I had no longer fit. I have been doing a lot of shoe shopping. Still wondering if I will lose more size.

Not me. They may be a little narrower, but they were Fred Flintstone-esque to begin with so...

Thank you everyone!

So....the shoes are going back. I thought about trying to exchange them for a smaller size, but that's too risky. They're so cute, too.

Silver lining = smaller feet!!! I hope hope hope I'm lucky enough to lose some foot fat. :D

My shoe size remained the same. Some people experience a reduction in width as well as with length in shoe size. I suspect the reduction is related to the amount of weight lost after surgery. So if you are planning to lose a couple hundred pounds or more, you may want to return the shoes.

At least a half size if not a whole. Partly because I had to buy larger size to accommodate width. Now I can buy shoes anywhere that actually fit.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
