It's a huber needle. Look it up and you will get a since of what they use. At least that's what my doctor uses. But my port is in my chest not my abdomen.

My port is also in my chest, I have the same doc as Twinmom. I just got a fill today. They numb me first, then do the fill. I never look while they do it, and the numbing med is a little stingy - that's about it. Don't be scared of the fills!

I barely felt it, the nurse didn't even numb me!

So you got your first fill? How do You feel?

My Doc feels for the port, marks the spot with a pen, then numbs the spot before using the fill needle. If you don't look, it won't phase you. :)

I was banded back in 2007. I live in Albany, so I don't attend the meetings. I did attend some when they were here. How are you doing with your band?

I live in Warner Robins so Macon isn't but 20 mins for me so I do go to the meetings. I was banded last year in October. I am still struggling with not focusing on the numbers but how my clothes fit.

I know with my Dr.... he made it very easy for me to deal with the needle. But my port is close to the surface.... and he would get me laughing and then get me in the port. This is what he did... lay on the table... put hands behind neck and lift your head slightly.

I don't look!! Lol. But for me it was not a large needle. My port is near my belly button so I don't get any anesthetic either.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
