I saw the surgeon yesterday and got my surgery date 3/13. Yikes! I have informed myself of the procedure, read so many blog posts, watched video's on youtube. I have done all the pre-op and am starting my 2 week pre-surgery diet in 2 days. I have heard all the pros and very few cons and I believe I am prepared.

I cannot help but question....am I really spending a boat load of money(no insurance coverage for bariatric) to have 75+ percent of my stomach removed and never be able to eat again (yes, I know this is a bit dramatic)? Breaking up with food will not be easy. I guess having anxiety is normal...I am trying not to freak out.

I keep thinking the same things, but i still feel like this is the right choice even though I am freaked out ha! I have decided to also find a therapist that deals w/eating disorders and what comes w/it. I don't just want to lose the weight I want to understand why I got here and why breaking up w/food is so hard. Also I've read about the emotions from all the hormones of losing weight so quickly and it'll be nice to have help w/that! Good luck for the 13th!!????????

It was an exaggeration... know that I will be able to eat eventually. It will just be different which is not bad. My old eating habits are what put in this position. I am really nervous but also excited. Just gotta get through the next 2 weeks!

I am March 13th too! So excited but also so scared! Go for pre-op meeting tomorrow. Just keep wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Also, I am self-pay like you and I feel guilty spending this money on myself. Glad to find someone with my date!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
