I did continue to loose for the entire first year. At a year, I reached my goal (normal BMI) and have been working on maintenance since. I lost a total of 210 pounds, including 40 pounds prior to surgery. I believe I could have lost more if I had wanted to. It gets much harder in the second six months. Your hunger comes back and with it the desire to return to old habits. You CAN still loose weight, but you have to be willing to work harder for it. Be MORE committed to eating right and getting daily exercise. The first six month, you can make mistakes and you will still lose, the second six months are about vigilance and making permanent lifestyle changes. ITS UP TO YOU!!

@@jessb418, I am really glad you asked this question. I am just at the 5 month mark. I have lost 80lbs and would like to lose another 65 to reach my goal. It is actually a goal I never thought possible and honestly was not striving for. My original goal was to improve my health and I have done more than I ever could have imagined. No more diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure. I found out this week that my stage 3 kidney disease has improved to the point where my kidneys are functioning at a normal level. My sleep apnea has resolved.

I thought after all this, that asking to continue to lose to get to my goal which is to no longer be overweight at all was just plain greedy.

I am working hard and will continue to do so because I now have new goals in mind for me.

I am unstoppable!

Stats are in my signature. I posted the first 9 months or so before the website switch when signatures got all messed up. To answer your question, yes, you can continue to lose consistently just at a slower pace.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
