11 months out.

Hey team. I hope everyone is strong healthy and well!

I have lost over 160 lbs twice, on my own without surgery through out my twenties . After seven years I gained 180 lbs back by the age of 35.

The issue I have is not loosing the weight but gaining it back.

So on April 1st of 2014 I had the gastric sleeve surgery performed. I have now lost 145lbs down from wishing in at 430lb in eleven months, I now weigh in at 285lb year to date.

I always have been a health nut but never had Portion Control " obviously " lol. Thank the lord I'm feeling strong as I used to and I'm in the gym daily training like a beast like I used to be.............. On another I have been hearing some NOT so positive news!? I know a couple who had this sleeve surgery two to four years out, they are currently having severe and unbearable heart burn, one of them had to have surgery due to there bariatric sleeve surgery and my other friend might be on the same verge. PLEASE is anyone or does anyone know the cause of this!? Why are people getting sever heart burn and

admitting for surgery!?

Reflux is a common problem after the sleeve, especially for people who had reflux to begin with. I read one article that said that 9% of people who did not have reflux developed it after the sleeve. It is thought that the new tube like shape was the culprit.

Hope your friends start feeling better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
