Stomach feels full?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost six weeks out, and haven't had any real issues. But the last two days, I've just been having trouble eating. I feel absolutely stuffed all the time. Drinking Water hasn't been a problem, but after just a couple bites I feel uncomfortably full. Almost nauseatingly full, but not to the point of throwing up. Like my pouch has gotten smaller, or something? Up until this point I've easily been able to eat almost a cup of food with no problem. Now even easy favorites like cottage cheese seem impossible.

Thoughts? I struggled to get in 300 calories today. The Protein Shakes have not treated me well, and my nutritionist had said I could forgo them if I ate enough Protein.

I have days where I can eat a lot and some days hardly nothing. I am 4 months out. I would just make sure you focus on your liquids so you don't get dehydrated and call your surgeon if it gets worse, like it feels like you can't get anything down or are throwing up.

I had my surgery the same day as you & I have felt just like you.....until last Thursday when I threw up for the first time since surgery. I tried a hard boiled egg & it didn't sit well. Ever since then I haven't been able to eat enough to get in my Protein. I called the Dr. & they believe the my throwing up last week may have irritated my stomach so they have me on Prilosec. I have to get back to the Dr. this afternoon to update them on how I'm feeling. I may have an ulcer & they may have to do an endoscopy. I just have to wait & see.

I'm just glad to find someone with the same surgery date & some similar issues. I hope you have better luck than me. Hang in there!

After surgery, the primary drivers are meeting your Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary. Your body is converting the stored fat in your body into energy. Thus you lose weight.

I had RNY surgery and was restricted to 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of food per meal at the six week mark. So I thought it strange that you were consuming a cup per meal. But there are a variety of surgeries such as Sleeve and the meal limit requirements will differ.

There are many different types of Protein shakes out there. To me they all taste bad. I experimented until I found one that I could tolerate. In my case it was Muscle Milk Light. I used a blender (Ninja single serving size) to blend the powder to the proper consistency. I blended in a banana to mask the taste.

I also though it strange that you can eat a whole cup of good at once at your point post op.. The most I seem to be able to get in is maybe 2/3 of a cup and I am 5 months post op.

Although some people are different so u may want to ask your doctor about that.

I agree the most important thing is to get your Protein and liquid in. You may have irritated your tummy last week when you threw up. It just might need a little time to heal.

Tried a bit of Protein shake... Ugh. Feel like my pouch is made of wood, sore to touch. Generating massive amounts of spit, which is just adding to my nausea. I'm gonna call in the morning.

It very much could be from irritation. I had a stomach bug around a month ago, luckily no throwing up, but my system is still not like it was before. Foods that I ate before I was sick don't always sit now. I was up most of last night cuz I was so bloated and in such pain I nearly passed out at one point. All of this started over three hours after a meal that I had eaten before with no problems. I'm hoping that with time it will all improve, but I have an appointment with the NP coming up if it doesn't.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
