I had my surgery on January 30th. I know it's too soon for strength training but I was curious when you were allowed to join a gym and start strength training. My next appointment with my doctor isn't until March 5 where I plan on asking him but I'm just curious if it varies by doctor. I can't wait to get in the gym but don't want to push it either.

I had my surgery on jan 23rd and joined the gym 1 week post op. I did it to walk on the treadmill to get my steps in because it was to fans cold outside and every time I tried walking at the mall I ended up shopping. Lol. The beginning was very easy going but now I've up the game so I fast walk on an incline. I do it for an hour about 6 days a week. I'm not allowed anything more until the two month mark when I can start crunches.

Instructions for me were six weeks for strength but I started last week with legs and arms at light weight. This week I will work core. Started at the gym a couple weeks ago on treadmill elipitical and stationary bike only. Good luck.

I was told that I could do only walking for the first few weeks and that I could start everything else at one month out.

I just want to use my eliptical or my stepper. I'm hoping my doc days it's fine when I see him Thursday. I think I can do weights at 4 weeks out.

I was cleared for walking/biking/elliptical the day after surgery, but had to wait 8 weeks, which was just yesterday, for strength training.

My doctor was a pain in my butt. He told me that right after surgery he wanted me to get about 30 minutes of walking a day-no big deal. But wouldn't let me do any type of weight training what so over until I was 6 weeks post op. Then he still gave me a hard time and said that I should really wait until I was 3 months out because then I would be fully healed. I had hernia surgery as well as my sleeve so that could be why. But I actually joined the gym at around 6 weeks to just walk, then I did weight training but i didn't do ANY core exclusive exercises because I was told that was the ultimate no-no.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
