3 Months post-op - some diet questions

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve completed just over 3 months ago ... 11/24/14 to be exact ... things are going well for me and my surgeon is very happy with me ... pre-surgery I was 336 and I am down to 247 as of yesterday ... I am working on incorporating new vegetables to my diet, but, I am unsure what to go with and also had some other general questions ...

my typical day consists of the following ...

Vitamins and 2% cottage cheese in the morning (shoot for 1/2 of a cup of cottage cheese)

chicken breast for lunch ... ideally 3-4 ounces, but, closer to 2-3 probably ... usually with some cheese, raw bell peppers and onions

EAS myoplex Protein Shake split up over 2 hours midafternoon (this has 42 grams of Protein so I spread it out over 2 hours to make sure I get all of the protein)

Isopure RTD Protein Drink for dinner ... I typically drink half of this prior to going to the gym and the other half after the gym

lately, I have been trying to add some vegetables at night ... I really enjoy mini carrots, but, I have to be careful to chew them really well ... bell peppers are good - I know I could do spinach, but, not the biggest fan of that ... what about celery?

also, at what point can I start to take advil?

Thanks for any help you can give me

Congratulations on your weight loss! That is awesome. I am not sure about the veggies, but I was told by my doctor that going forward I could only take Tylenol...period. I would check with your provider.

I have had issues with all sorts of food but oddly celery is not one of them. I was told it may be difficult to digest. I eat a few stick of celery with veggie dip a few nights a week and it's a good snack. If you try it, just have a little and see how it goes. Also would help to pick the lighter color stalks from the center of the celery, it's less stringy.

that is great news - one of my favorite Snacks used to be celery with some Peanut Butter ... I will give it a go ... thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
