Mederma or scar cream?

Recommended Posts

I am currently 5 weeks post op and have been alternating between Mederma and another paint on surgiscar liquid twice daily. As soon as my bandages came off I started the creams. Has anyone used scar creams that were successful and if so which ones?

Scarfade gel. It worked on my shingles scars and has helped lessen my incision scars. I keloid so some of them were raised and bumpy. 5 months out and they are mostly flat.

It depends on the person. Most of mine were small but my drain and one other incision scar were pretty big and noticeable, not to mention the became raised and bumpy once they keloided.

my scars are almost not visible and I'm 2.5 weeks post op. Once the scab falls off the biggest one I'll know about that one but I really do think it depends on the person....and the surgeon too.

Of the 7 incisions they made two of mine are longer than an inch and I've been using scar cream. I am pretty sure they will turn white by summer but still bummed that one of them is so large. I won't be able to wear a bikini with out it showing so it looks like I'll be a Tankini girl forever.

I used Mederma when I had skin cancer removed and it didn't do much on that so that's why I went with a different type this time. Good luck-

I haven't used anything on my scars. I do use the daily nivea firming lotion (in hopes that something will firm this stretchy skin) but my scars are barely noticeable. They look like little lines in my belly. I must heal well though because my c-section scar from my daughter is nearly invisible as well.

For my ACL scar, which was much longer than any of my WLS incisions, I used a silicone scar pad. You put it on at night and it physically flattens the area. You cut the pads to shape. I think I bought them at Walmart or CVS. There are kits that come with the scar cream and the pads.

I may use it for my 3 larger ones from the sleeve. If you do were a bikini you absolutely MUST use sunscreen to help prevent the scar from discoloring.

Thank you all for the input!

I too feel like I've been in a knife fight and my attacker was very linear... Lol!

My C-Section scar healed very nicely 8 years ago so I'm pretty hopeful that these will do the same????

I found a prescription cortisone cream worked great.

Silicone scar pads were recommended by my doc yesterday.

I bought new gel+ silicone pads off the internet and they feel cool and soothing on my 10 day old scar. About14 inches and I hope it fades.

A bit pricey. We shall see

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
