What Books Are You Reading Now?

Recommended Posts

Currently reading GONE by Jonathon Kellerman, and Bad Boy by Olivia Goldsmith.

I find myself reading less now that I can use my laptop in the yard while the kids play---I used to read!!!

Carlene: Other than my DH, you're the only person I've known who has read "Alas Babylon."

I'm the only person I know who has read it, too. I think it's only well known among Sci Fi fans, since they never made a movie out of it. They should have, though. "The Postman" wasn't nearly as good (IMHO) but it got the silver screen treatment anyway. Go figure.

I hope people post on here . It will give me like it has some good reads for future.

I forgot to make a list and needed my fix for sitting outside and reading.

I am cheap too so I use my local library.

I picked up

"The Best of the Best 20 Years of the Years Best Science Fiction" 2005

and

"Last Rites " The Selected Stories of Robert Bloch 1987

I was in a hurry . I picked up an audio book of "Hannibal" Thomas Harris

for my Ipod.

If I didn't have some stitchin or readin to do I would be lost.

My grandparents were heavy readers until they passed away in their late 80's. Miss them. Good role models.

.....Khalalia Ali (Muhammad Ali's daughter) "FIGHTING WEIGHT". It is her story of growing up as a fat child (me too), to a 325 lbs. adult, to being banded. Good Read for a Newbie!!!

Just finished rereading "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Heinlein

I first read "Alas Babylon" in 7th grade, one of the best.

I may reread "Trinity" by Leon Uris or head down to the local B&N to see whats new.

I have been a Heinlein fan for mny many moons and actually just reread a few of my favorites- Job and Friday are two of them.and the Lazarus Long stories.Someone mentioned the Postman- one of the best book i ever read but the movie....... It is one that my DH brings up when he wants to laugh as my eyes flash and I go on a tirade about bad book to movie translations! Like Starship Troopers... Oh please don't get me started.....!

Ok, I'm going to be different.... I LOVE anything by Stephen King....

Right now I'm reading "Shoot the Moon" by Billie Letts, "Predator" by Patricia Cornwell, "Life Expectancy" by Dean Koontz.

I usually have 4 or 5 books going at any one given time, I can't get enough, plus I commute 30 minutes to work, so I listen to books while I'm driving. Passes the time, and I can hardly stand listening to the radio anymore. Thank goodness the library has a decent selection of books on CD!

I can't read more than one book at a time. I make up for it, though, by reading quickly. I can usually finish a standard-length novel (250-300 or so pages) in a few hours, if I do nothing else.

Picked up "The Return" by Bentley Little for $1 at a used book shop.

I enjoy his Horror novels more so than Stephen King. Highly recommended for anybody looking for a traditional 'boogyman' story.

Before King Fans rip my head off, let me say that "The Stand" (Uncut version) and "The Dark Tower" series are in my top 10

Never heard of Bentley Little. You make me want to check his stuff out. I'm not a big Steven King fan, but enjoyed some of his movies - probably because I hadn't read the books.

I'm like you laurend, I can't put a book down until I finish it, if it's a book I really like.

Enjoy James Patterson a lot too. I've read all of Patricia Cornwell's books although there have been a couple of clinkers in there.

I actually own almost every book by SK in hardback. However, I think it would be silly to rip anyone's head off for their preference in authors. I enjoy a great many authors, he just happens to be my favorite.

I also really enjoy anything by Robert McCammon (Boy's Life, Swan Song) He has a similar writing style to SK, except without King's dark humor, which never fails to crack me up. :girl_hug:

Hi Bubble and all, I sadly have not read a good book in quite a while. What are your favourite bookstores? I love Boarders even if they are a bit pricey. I hate that you have to spend $30 for one book. I like having a coffee in their cafe though.

Half Price Bookstores ROCKS! I find great stuff on their clearance shelves for $1.00. Also, Sam's Club has all the latest books at much lower prices than Border's or Barnes and Noble.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
