Had a rough night

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 week post op today. When eating dinner I think I ate too fast or maybe even didn't chew enough. I think a bite got stuck a little... I could feel it and it hurt really bad. I've never felt such pain... I tried to throw up and couldn't but need to do something so I stretched and wiggled a bit and the pain went away. Anyone experience this?

Yes, I have been there. That is usually what I had to do. Was to stretch out and the food would go down. Not a good experience. I find that counting my chews helps me eat slow. I am 7 years out with my band and I still have to count every time I chew. Especially if I am eating with friends.

I have only had one small stuck episode and it was quite unpleasant. But from what I have read on here, this is quite common if food is eaten too fast or not chewed well enough. Esp so soon post-op when your band is probably creating a little swelling from surgery. Just hang in there, take things slow, and use this time to learn the process!

Good luck :-)

This happened to me on Friday and I freaked out! I thought I was having a heart attack! I'm just taking it slow stretching and trying to eat only liquids. This feeling made me want to take it out!

Aren't you supposed to still be on liquids 7 days post op?

I had a few times of that over the last years. Bending over in the garden seemed to put pressure where it needed to be and the feeling clears. It is not pleasant and I find there are just a few items that are not on my list to eat. One is almonds. They sort of remain in particles when chewed unlike cashews or peanuts that turn into butter apparently. Keep your menu where the dr. has it and when you are allowed to add more texture chew well and try one new item at a time. You can do this! Success is around the corner and it comes in small packages! God is Good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
