Wine and lap-band.

Recommended Posts

Just beginning to explore lap band surgery. I enjoy a couple of glasses of wine in the evening. What type of restrictions on wine and alcohol are placed on you when you are banded?

Thanks!

I never drank wine before I had my band. I like to drink it now sometimes at night just to unwind. I have never had any problem. My Dr even suggested it if for some reason your having a hard time getting food to go down because you are stressed or something. I just dont like to drink to much because of the calories. So for me theres no problem.

No problems for me with wine......... I also have margaritas a couple times a month with no problems. Just empty calories, but sometimes worth it!

My surgeon was all in favor of a glass or two of wine a night...which pleased me! I think once I start to inbibe again (after I have some solid foods in me) that I will THOROUGHLY enjoy my wine at night!

Robin,

There is no absolute restriction against alcohol with the band, but it is a liquid calorie (liquid calories are one of the biggest reasons for band failure) so just keep it on the light side!

There's even health benefits to (very) moderate wine intake.

The biggest problems I find are having a glass too many and losing your caution - forgetting to eat slowly if you're eating and getting stuck or getting the munchies as you tend to do with less than moderate alcholol consumption.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
