Most of the folks that seem to get the VSG seem smaller. I have my first appointment on 3/13 to start the sleeve process, but my starting weight is 470 and I'm afraid that maybe I'm too big for sleeve to work. I don't want the full bypass. Anyone here successful with losing 250-300lbs with the sleeve??

My husband was sleeved in November at 500 lbs. He has lost 120 so far. Our surgeon originally said there was a possibility of doing bypass in the future. We figured we will cross that bridge if and when it needs to be. So far so good though. Even 3 months out he's losing 5-6 lbs a week.

I started my preop diet weighing 384 lbs in August of 2013, went for Gastric Sleeve Surgery in mexico in September of 2013. As of July 2014 I had lost 238lbs. I am now holding steady at 147lbs!!! It can be done with the sleeve! Just follow your doctor's orders :)

Honestly it hasn't been that difficult for me. I eat pretty much the same things I ate before WLS just in smaller amounts.

I don't have quit as much to lose for my personal goal but still had about 200 pounds I wanted to get off. My starting weight was 388. I am only a little over 4 months out and down 83 pounds. My doctor never questioned if sleeve would work. I think they see great results these days with it on high BMIs. I have read several stories of people the same size or bigger who were successful. I think you can totally do it!

The change with eating is what took me a couple months to adapt to. I literally mourned food the first couple months. I haven't had anything really disagree with my body but I definitely have a difference in what feels almost heavy in my stomach. Breads are so heavy for me. So I just stay away from those. And ground beef feels me up quicker than chicken but I'll still eat it. I just adjusted my choices and trust me, I am crazy picky so if I can do it, anyone can. I don't feel like I had to give anything up. I eat what I want. But I chose to eat what makes me feel better and not like a ton of bricks. You can do this David!!

Thank you for that. I needed to hear it. I have my first appointment on the 13th to start the process and I was starting to get discouraged because I wasn't finding stories like my own. I know this is going to be a big change, but I'm ready for it. I'm sick of not feeling good all the time.

The link to my story is in my signature tag. Basically I am a vegetarian with multiple food and medicine allergies. I spent 3 years losing the same 35 - 50 lbs, getting sick and regaining. The sleeve helped alleviate my allergy triggers. The only time I had a hive outbreak since being sleeved was when I stopped taking my ZyrtecD. Before surgery I couldn't go a week without a severe hive outbreak.

This is a game changer for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
