Janiee: That's the way I feel about ALL canned drinks. GROSS! I wish I liked them because it would be perfect for when I travel for work. I wouldn't have to refrigerate them. I am in different hotels almost everynight, and I don't always have a refrigerator.

Maybe someone will mention a canned Protein drink that is good, but I will still be skeptical. :welldoneclap:

Everyone: Thanks for this great info. I am copying it into a word file so I will have it as I make this journey. I have another file about ideas for the liquid diet.

I guess I should purchase a magic bullet. (Shame on me, but every time I hear that name I think it sounds like some kind of adult *toy!*) :embarassed: (This is the smiley face for embarassed, but it doesn't really look embarassed to me. I, on the other hand, do!)

I am pre-banded. I start my day with powdered Slim-fast mixed with soy milk because it is easy and I like the consistency and taste. However, it has a lot of sugar--in fact that's the first ingredient. I know that after post surgery, I will need to drink a lot of shakes. I am very picky about the taste and texture. I wanted to start trying some now, so that I would already know which ones I like and have them ready for after surgery.

Soes anyone have suggestions as to shakes that you like? I don't really like the flovor of the canned ones, but if I must . . .

I called my Doctor's office today and they advised me that if I didn't want to drink the Slim Fast High Protein (to expensive) then I should get the Atkins shakes which I found at Sam's Club, so I have enough SF to last me until I get off of work tomorrow so I will stop by there then and pick up a couple of cases. I want a good one too (which the SF is but the cost is to much) because I will have to drink them for Breakfast after the surgery since I'm not a Breakfast person. I don't know how much Protein is in each but if anybody can tell me please post it on line. I hope this helps.

I have found that the best shake that is highest in Protein and very inexpensive to make is EAS Protein Shake Has 26 grams per scoop of protein and less then 3 carbs Is available from BJ'S wholesale at cost $25.00 for about 75 shakes I like it made with Water but my wife likes it made with skim Milk. If you do the math it works out to about 33 cents per shake and that is really cheap and the product is tasty. I would highly recommend it . The product is also Available at most Vitamin stores like GNC and Vitamin World but I have found the price to be much higher there.

Hey... I REALLY love Arbonne Protein Shakes. It comes in powder and you mix it with Water or milk (milk adds 100 cals but also 8 grams of protein.) It comes in chocolate, vanilla, and Chai Latte and there is also an orange Fiber supplement that is great!!. I mix the chocolate, chai latte, and a little of the orange in a blender with milk and some ice. These are great. With that mixture you would have about 28-30 grams of Protein. Now with Arbonne you can only buy the products through consultants but you can get the stuff on e-bay. :: Arbonne International ::

If you want to order together, we can use my mom's id number and get a huge discount. I am telling you this because they taste great and are really healthy not because I am looking for my mom to make any money. It uses pea protein if you would like to look it up.

I am 5 days post op and down 9 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my band

I also like Any Whey. I mix it with Hood Calorie Countdown chocolate milk. Yummy! If I don't want anything sweet, I actually mix it with strong, hot beef broth. It mixes in completely with no change in flavor or texture, although with the broth it's a little odd because you get a bit of a vanilla scent (but no vanilla taste). As for the broth, I use a can of double strength and mix it with a can of regular beef broth or stock rather than using Water. It tastes much better that way.

I think if you look at the panel on the Hood choc milk it contains quite a few carbs & calories even though it is lower in carbs then regular choc. milk

I love EAS Edge Carb Control. I but the pre-made ones. I think they must be cold to really enjoy them. If you go to Wal-Mart EAS is very cheap and reasonable compared to others out their. I think the chocolate fudge is the best, but the vanilla is okay too. Hope this helps.

I bought the EAS premium Protein 6# bag at costco for around $25.00. It has 140 calories, 3 carbs, 27 grams of protein. The bag has 75 servings. I bought the vanilla flavor and mixed it with crystal lite.

Hi. I am 9 days post band and am very picky about the taste of the shakes. banana creme muscle milk with a little edys no sugar added vanilla slow churned is good. The ice cream cut that "proteiny" taste. Also, The sugar free carnation instant breakfast is great and I fortify it with 2 tablespoons of nonfat dry milk. Hope it helps!

I cannot believe your Dr is allowijng you to eat any kind of Ice cream at all. As far as I am concerned those days are over until I reach my goal weight. Low sugar isnt low calorie or low fat

Oops, forget to mention that I don't use 100% Hood. I cut is about 30% with either H2O or when I can find it, Hood Fat-Free milk. The chocolate milk is fairly thick to begin with and with the Any Whey, it really does need to be thinned down. It also cuts the calories - it only has 5 g of carbs, so only drinking it once a day doesn't really worry me as I pay very close attention to my carbs throughout the day (I'm averaging 20-30 g per day).

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
