post op diet and progression *looking for advice*

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone had advanced their food level stages at a faster pace then recommended, and if so- what were the results. I am only on day 7, but my sleeve is tolerating everything i put in it extremely well. I was drinking choc milk ( just a few sips) in day 4. i later found out that was a big no-no, but my sleeve could care less. I am getting bored fast with Soups and yogurt and would like to progress to some sophisticated softies like eggs. Onviously, if i didnt get this done in Mexico, I could ask my doc. i cant do that. Also is it bad to be swallowing whole bariatric Vitamins at this stage? My sleeve took it quite well.

I was allowed to swallow whole Vitamins at 7 days post-op. You should stick to the plan your surgeon/nutritionist set for you and avoid the temptation to skip ahead. They have those guidelines in place for a reason!

I'm curious about why you can't ask your surgeon though.... I had my surgery in Mexico too and had plenty of opportunity for follow-up questions via phone and email post-op.

eggs are on my list for 7 days post op as well as tuna & chicken salad. Also mashed potatoes so I would say " go for it"

I would say follow your doctor's orders to a T. Just because your tummy allows you to, doesn't mean you should. You could cause harm to your new tummy. The diet sucks and it's boring...you invested a lot in this surgery, don't let your head hunger get the best of you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
