Birth control post op

The pill isn't as affective against pregnancies after bypass. It will still help to regulate periods though so I wouldn't suggest it. I can't do the iud either because I don't have children. My OBGYN won't do it, went to an other one and also wouldn't do it. And i can no longer take depo cause of risks of osteoporosis so I'm doing the evra patch now and condoms seems to be ok so far.

I'd forgotten about the Nuva ring, I used that a few kids ago and really liked it. And it would mean no worries about absorbing a pill. I can't use it myself right now, as I'm breastfeeding my toddler, but would use it again if need be.

That said, there is an IUD out now that is specifically tested and designed for women without any children, Skyla. http://bedsider.org/features/261-hello-skyla-getting-to-know-the-newest-iud

I have the Nexplanon implant. I have not had children yet and my Dr said that Mirena is not recommended unless you have already had kids. I have had no weight gain with Nexplanon. It lasts for 3 years and it has also stopped my periods like the Depo shot used to. It is about the size of a match and gets implanted in the inside upper arm (near the bicep). My arm looked bruised for a week after insertion but it didn't hurt. Insertion was uncomfortable but if you have had a tattoo you can handle the pain. Now they say that it can be less effective in Obese women...but I've found it to be very effective.

The Mirena wasn't tested in women without children, so the label can't say that it is safe for women who have not had children. You can sitll use it, but it is "off label" use. The other one, similar to mirena, was specifically tested on women without children, is a little smaller, and only lasts 3 yrs.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
