Piercings and surgery

Recommended Posts

I have several piercings that will need to be replaced with plastic spacers when surgery comes around. What is the best type of jewlery to purchase that is medically acceptable? I keep running across something called bioflex in my research. Has anyone used that?

you know you are getting older, when you are not a big fan of body piercings :o ;)

buttttt............

when i reached goal i had my ears re-pierced (they had closed) years earlier

following week i had another piecing

then ONE more :)

total of 3 on each side ;)

to continue...............

i had first 3 letters of my grand-kids tattooed on my right forearm in italics (i never had a tattoo before!!)

M organ A ndrew E than

with a little italic red heart under each letter

couple months later i got the word survivor above my right ankle

shortly after i had a cute little butterfly spaced above the word survivor!!!

all above were my rewards i gave myself at goal

( promised hubby no more tattoos for the next 58 years!!!) :) :D

all my tattoos were small, tasteful and look great!!!

i'm sure the same can be said about your body piercings :)

good luck with surgery

speedy recovery :)

I have a tragus piercing, 16 gage. I wore a bioflex spacer and didn't have any problems. The only thing that was weird and I was nervous about was the little rings on the end that keep it on. It came with two, but there is only a little notch for one. I used both anyway, because I was afraid of it falling out! It stayed in nicely though, and I kept it in for a week after surgery with no problems.

Depending on the piercings you have, you can put them right back in after surgery and they shouldn't close in the 45 minutes of the procedure (unless you have a toungue ring- my toungue closed fast when I took it out a few years ago). I had a belly button ring which we took out right before surgery and the nurses put back in for me right after surgery. Just a thought...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
