How are the November banders?

Recommended Posts

Jut checking in. I'm down about 50lbs but have not been working the band the last 2 weeks and have not lost much weight which is all my doing, not my band. Otherwise I have not had any complications and I feel so much lighter and healthier since my initial weight loss.

I had a first goal of 50lbs. I now am going to do it 10lbs at a time since my weight is not coming off as quickly. I have about 60 more to get to my doctor's goal for me of 200lbs. I'm not sure what my goal should be. According to BMI charts I should be about 155 so that would be another 105lbs. Wow that sounds overwhelming!!!

@@briefs199 I totally get it! I measure at 5'6" but I grew up thinking I was 5'7". Maybe because my mom was 5'11"?? :-) Either way, it was really hard to come up with a goal weight so I settled on 160. My identical sister lost a bunch of weight when we were younger and her smallest was 155-160 and some said she was too thin. And that was way back before life and marriage and having kids, so I just want to see what I look like when I get there. But, it feels good because of the weight I have lost right now, i am officially under the "I need to lose a hundred pounds" point. I think this last fill might have gotten me to green, so I am really happy about that. But there are days it still feels really overwhelming.

Just taking it a day at a time. Hope everyone is is well! AND staying warm!!

I'm 5'6" and 3/4!! I will see how it goes. I remember being 170 and loving it but maybe my goals will find me instead of finding my goal?

Do what you are doing now...small increments. They will add up. The most I ever lost over a month's time was eight lbs. And that's added up to a total of around 155 lbs. lost. As far as 'goal', I too have been eating as I always have and figured my goal would be when my body stopped losing. My PCP came up with the 150 lb. goal weight but as you can see by my ticker, I've dropped quite a bit more than that. I'm fairly sure I'm done now. My new goal is to maintain. I'd like to stay at 115 or less.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
