Hey this is my first time posting on anything like this.. Just trying to find out as much as I can about this process to stop my mind wondering.

Currently I have seen bariatric nurse and dietician. I had a sleep study in December and due to some miscommunication I missed the follow up appt which I now have on Wednesday.

They have told me that I need to be under a cpap for at least 6 weeks before the anaesthesiologist will do anything.

My dietician gave me the pre op diet and told me how much they want me to lose before surgery ; not to follow the pre op diet till they tell me to though. Have to go for an endoscopy and providing all is well I should be getting an idea when I can have surgery reasonably soon

Currently weigh 178kg. Not proud of it but am here to change for the rest of my life and be able to actually live it

Sorry if I've rambled on a bit.

Dan

Still undecided at the moment. I don't wanna have the band , just looking for what people think may be the best for me, but most likely sleeve or RNY

Good luck with whatever you decide, well, this is the bypass forum so obviously I would recommend to get the bypass if you can, as with the sleeve you will most likely not be able to lose all your excess weight. Hopefully you will be medically cleared for bypass, I have a friend who is 198 kg and he was not cleared for bypass nor the sleeve as his heart is very weak and his lungs are also sick. He is getting the balloon, to try to lose at least 40kg so his surgeon can go ahead with the bypass.

I know it is a lenghty process here in the UK, can take up over a year. I hope yours will happen in timely fashion. I live in the UK but had my surgery overseas and I self paid. I talked to my GP about the bypass before my surgery, but he was not supportive and gave me some silly pills to take and try to lose weight, that's when I decided to go overseas with my surgery.

Wish you luck, and keep us updated!

Thanks for the support. My choice would be bypass but ultimately I will make decision on what's recommended by my surgeon. I will definitely try my best to keep you updated. Nice to have somewhere to come and read about all the thoughts I have been having and that I'm not alone in thinking them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
