what to bring to the hotel?

Recommended Posts

There is a thread on what to pack but I wouldn't know how to begin searching for it. I can tell you that I packed light. I brought GASX strips that disolve in your mouth. Your doctor will give you RX for pain. Try to get those filled before the surgery. I wore loose fitting clothes, easy on easy off to the hospital. Plan on sleeping after the surgery. If you have any RX's don't forget to bring those. I didn't have a problem with my medication as all the pills were small. Practical things like Maps to the medical facility and of the town helped..I just Googled and printed them and tucked them in my purse.

Best of luck.

The bullet to me doesnt make much sense. I had Water only day 1. Day 2-4(or 5 or 6 or something), it was Clear liquids. I believe full liquids was only starting pretty much 1 week after surgery. Unless you are starting in toronto that long i dont think you need it. That is my opinion, unless you are bringing it for something else.

One thing i would do is prepare for the person who is accompanying you to pickup your prescription. go to the drugstore before, so you know where it is...etc. Basically depending on your meds, they may cause nauseau, you may want to buy chewable gravol or liquid.

Hi Andrea,

You will need your bullet as you will be staying until the forth of August I believe you said. Dr. Cobourn's patients start having Optifast again. I started having mine on friday after having surgery on wednesday. The day of surgery was Water only then thursday clear, low fat low carb low calorie liquids. Then Friday opti-fast can be added in. One package for me spilt into three servings for the day. That lasts 7-10 days. Yours might be slightly different based on what Dr. C thinks is best.

Hope that helps with your question. I also took both gas x strips and chewable tablets. Also found children's liquid tylenol the 2-12 year old one worked well for me for pain. Also they do make a gravol suppository which might be easy to take then the liquid if you are having troubles, but I don't think you will, I sure didn't and that was a fear of mine.

Has your package arrived from the clinic yet?

Andrea, I also brought my magic bullet. I had the junior strength liquid tylenol, chewable Gas-X, and chewable Gravol. I wouldn't even worry about the tylenol. They'll give you a prescription painkiller to take with you. It seems that all Dr. Cobourn patients get liquid codeine.

You are too funny, packing 2 months ahead of time! hehe Don't worry, I was almost as bad!

So when u order Optifast how many weeks do you need to order? how long does it take sorry to say but Canada post is not the best. Does anyone have any tips for the prep diet since i will be on holidays during that time? i think i better keep my self busy cleaning my house or something. I really appreciate everyone help thank you so much i know i will need lots more.

I was happy that I took my bullet along, made my last few drinks and my soon to be first sips of Optifast after surgery much more pleasant. I also took my heating pad, comfy cloths, slip-on shoes, sun glasses, magazines, a good book, gax-x, liquid gravol, powdered chicken stock, my favorite tea and my pillow. I tend to over prepare, makes me feel better.

I'm so excited for you that you have booked your surgery. Woohoo!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
