My stomach sounds are scaring me and I'm starving

Recommended Posts

6 days post OP and all I can hear is this horrendous ear-shattering rumble below. I am drinking all my liquids, and even downed the most disgusting-chunky-protein laced 'chocolate' drink- twice today. Not to mention I am always hungry and craving pancakes. Hell, I even have my first bites of real food mapped out a month from now.Anyone else experience this, and will it subside?

Guessing we all went through something simliar at one time or another. It gets better.

Are you on a PPI - an acid inhibitor like Proselec? Reason I ask is that that baby tummy is still making enough acid for a full size tummy and it can feel just like hunger. Controlling acidy tummy is one of the most important things in controlling hunger in those early weeks.

I am 3 years out and haven't experienced what you are describing since the early days... so yes, it is temporary!

thanks for the reply, feel a bit better about the whole thing. yea I am taking antacids- though they are from mexico and look a little bit sketchy. Maybe I need to upgrade. At 3 years out, do you regret it?

Are you kidding?? I am hanging out in single digit clothes and in the 150s. I am so changed so overjoyed to no longer be 300 plus pounds! My life is transformed.

Good PPI meds are available over the counter. Tums won't cut it.

Do you have follow up care and support?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
