Recommended Posts

at 3 months I was doing well to get in 500 to 600...I noticed you mentioned egg muffin? I realize everyones plan is differant but them kinda carbs the bread carbs are alot of empty calories . I am 7 months an I do well to get 1/2 to 1 egg an 2 slices of bacon for Breakfast. I still get under 800 cal a day.

My nut suggested I eat two scrambled eggs with a half of English muffin. I added a slice of cheese .

That has been the only bread I have eaten since surgery.

Heck, I wish it was an egg mc muffin lol

I've been at 500-600 calories daily since 6 weeks pre-op (I'll be at 5 months in one week). Some claim that this is starvation mode, but I don't think that applies to everyone. I'm just so use to this kind of daily of intake everyday, that I don't feel like a I'm starving. I DON'T eat if I'm not hungry and my bariatrician agreed that 500 daily calories is not too low as long as I get my Vitamins and 80 grams of Protein in.

I eat three meals a day:

1. Isopure Protein Drink (210 cal, 50 gr Protein, 0 carb)

2. tuna, Salmon, or Flounder, 3 oz. (90 cal, 15 pro, 0 carb)

3. chicken, turkey, seafood, or beef, 3 oz. + 1/2 cup veg.

(200 cal, 20 pro, 5-10 carbs)

4. Fage Total 0% 1/2 cup Late night snack (Fri/Sat/Sun only)

(65 cal, 12 pro, 4 carbs)

If I'm hungry in the middle of the night or can't sleep, I eat a few small Vlasic dill pickles (0 cal, 0 pro, 0 carbs)

So, my total everyday comes to 500-600 calories, 5-14 carbs, 85-89 grams protein. I walk an hour everyday and do Pilate's a few times a week. There are some days when I am busy and only get in 40 fl oz of Water. I need to work on it.

I don't track daily because I stick to the same eating schedule everyday. Yes, it can get boring, but I'm quite use to it. It will change once I hit maintenance, which hopefully will be in 2-3 months. By the way, sleep is important. There are too many good research studies showing the correlation between adequate sleep and weight loss to think otherwise.

I never tracked or measured my food, but did a few spot calorie checks along the way. At 3 months I was at 800-1000 calories, 1000-1200 by 6 months and have been maintaining below goal on 1400-1600 for 7 months.

But your body is different than every other body on here. If you are happy with your weight loss, then who cares what your nut's charts say??? If you can lose at 1200 pounds then go for it! The important part is that its 1200 healthy calories, and those choices are up to you.

@tfarr I don't count calories at all although I am "aware" of them. If you are eating correctly and losing weight I don't think there is a real need. I am careful with foods that I am prone to overeat. For example, I love pistachios and can eat a LOT of them without feeling full. I divide them up into single portion bags that works really well for me.

My nut doesn't worry about the amount of calories she wants me to focus on Protein and getting that in along with the greens! Just stay away from carbs and it won't matter how many calories

I'm like 4 months out and still can't eat two eggs and half an English muffin in one sitting. I would try to eat alot slower and use a low carb high Protein supplement at least 1 time per day.

Lol I ate that once

I saw my surgeon today, my Nutritionist and the physical therapist today. They are all amazed at my weightloss. I've lost 70% of

My expected weightloss so far ( 63lbs) and am at the point of someone 6 mo post op. They told me not to worry about calories so much as appropriate foods. Protein first , veggies and fruits.

He also suspects I have a faster metabolism. That's a first for me lol

That made me feel more relaxed about my current situation.

I do eat more than everyone else, but, it's working and I am still losing.

I do need to work on slowing down and not drinking for 30 min prior to eating.

All the comments have been very informative and I thank you for all your support :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
