I'll be having bypass surgery mid August. My doctor said a bypass might result in better diabetes control than the sleeve would

Zackly, i am 5 days post op from lapband revised to bypass. Why bypass? The band is a complete failure for me due to complications and me not listening to the surgical experts. I am 58 had the band at 51 lost, regained, lot health issues, thyroid, kidney stones insulin Resistance. Do not turn a blind eye to the bypass, it is still the gold standard. The sleeve is good if reflux is not in the picture. It was a no brainer for me as reflux was the reason i could not sleep, by pass was the way for me. Yes i had to get around that part where my plumbing was rerouted. I take one small chewable Vitamin A day for the rest of my life, i was anyway. And pump up the Calcium. I was 236 preop weight 231 5'3" tall. I was concerned about my age, in the end it did not make the difference. My health, my life with my husband, and our dreams together are what has made the difference. Go for it, being free of the things that made you sick was the catalyst for me. I have post op pain yes. I am doing everything the doc saya to do so I plan on being successful. Let is all know your decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
