Can you have a "drink" with the band?

Recommended Posts

My doctor doesn't recommend drinking alcoholic beverages at all with the band. I have read that some people can if they take antacids. I'm not a huge drinker, but sometimes go out with co-workers and was wondering if it will destroy my band if I were to have a drink once in awhile. (I am set for the band in early July). Anyone know?

I drink a glass or two of wine on a regular basis, probably 3 nights out of 7. It doesnt give me heartburn or anything, but I've never remotely suffered from reflux or heartburn issues unless I was pregnant, and then I had to virtually sleep standing up, lol.

Oh - drinking is probably not recommended becuase its empty calories.

And I am careful when I drink not to forget to eat VERY carefully. Easily done after a couple.

question.. I was told that drinking is empty calories, but also have read on some of these posts that wine does help with digetion. I do plan on re-introducing wine and the occasional social drink back into my circle of life just as i would with all the other changes I am making in my life.

Right now i am only 10 days post op so it is not even an option for me (nor do I miss it like I thought I would). MY MOTTO is moderation and smart choices for my life. Just be smart about those choices.

Good luck!!!!! This is just my 2 cents worth..

I was told the same thing as Stacy but he told me 6 weeks. I said "how can I have 4th of July without a Margarita?" He said buy the low carb mix (I've had it from when I was doing Atkins, it's really good) and only have one. I can so live with that. He said it doesn't hurt the band it's just empty calories.

I've read about the empty calories but never the alcohol part of it. Maybe it's also to make sure you don't have anything carbonated...like a cooler or something mixed with it.

Not sure, I rarely drink but I would still like to know that I could have one if I felt like it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
