No BM in two weeks?

Recommended Posts

Make sure you check with your surgeon regarding which products you are allowed to use. Sennakote is one he does not let me use. Pepto Bismol is another.

You should call him/his office to let him know that you have not gone in 2 weeks.

For the poster asking about going to the ER try calling your doctor's office first. Hopefully you have a 24 hour nursing line and they should have recommendations. They will know the preferred drugs etc.. for post bariatric surgery. If you can't get a hold of the office in a reasonable time I would go to an Urgent Care first choice and the ER second choice.

Some insurance companies also have a 24 hour nurse hot line. Mine does.

My doc never mentioned to me when I should have one but I had my first one Monday, surgery was the 10th. I was prescribed liquid Colace to use as needed. I never used it.

Went to the ER, wasn't fun My bowels were impacted which also shut down my bladder. So they had to use a catheter and they manually unimpacted me! Back home today and feeling like a million bucks.

When I was doing the HCG diet we had to drink a tea called "Smooth Moves" every other nite before bed. I have just started using it again with good results.

@@GreenEyes604 Unfortunately this happened to me yesterday! I had to buy a fleet enema for the first time and my mother helped to...administer it, lol. Needless to say in about 2 minutes I felt some much needed relief!

I have the Smooth Move tea in four different flavors. My favorite is chocolate because I can steep it in my hot chocolate at bedtime and not taste that herbal flavor so much. I use it if I haven't gone for a couple of days. Everything is just fine by morning. I also keep stool softener, Miralax, magnesium tablets, prune juice, and apples on hand. I guess it's the old Girl Scout in me.......be prepared.

I would go to the er if I was in pain. I've been doing milk of magnesia for two days now. I feel action in the gut and gas but still no bm.

Then try to get more Water in while you are taking it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
